If at the screen that displays the cycle flags, the ones with the asterisks indicate that they have completed their tests. Once all the cycle flags (6) have been completed, a trip has finished.
Read here (Porsche 993 Cycle Flag Basics) for more info: http://www.systemsc.com/codes.htm

"PIWIS Software Enthusiast license"

Imagine what the Pro license costs!

I don't think there's such a thing as a PIWIS "enthusiast" software license...

Without access to monitoring the SETTING of readiness codes, a generic scanner is basically useless! Have you forgotten?
My experience has not been the same as yours.
I have a 96' Varioram Carrera with the 4 oxygen sensors and by using a generic and inexpensive Autel AL519 reader I can see the status of all the pending readiness codes individually. If one leaves the reader plugged in while driving around one can catch each code as it is triggered.
I purchased the reader specifically for this function as I was having problems with my Durametric seeing this status information.

Please provide a screen-shot of your 993 DME firmware version. Based on my review of all the 993 DME versions, only the '98 version will indicate monitors as they're being set.
All the earlier versions require the ALL monitors be set before ANY set monitors can be indicated by a generic scanner. You were involved in discussing this issue before on Rennlist,
and asked that I post screen-shots of the 993s I tested to corroborate the findings, surprised you mention this now. Please indicate the generic scanner being used. Also, how many
trips (requiring cold starts) must you drive to set all the monitors?

...as was I.

Still trying to understand the purpose of this post, regarding a PRACTICAL application of Porsche specific diagnostic testers. (hammer, PST2, and PIWIS (not connected to the Porsche mother ship).
PRACTICAL, being the operative word, which of course does not include the cost listed in the OP!

I have a PIWIS II (KTS 650). It was not cheap, but its functionality seemed to justify the acquisition.

One can **** away all kinds of lesser amounts of money on diagnostic testers that don't do it all or that suffer from bugs, by using the Microsoft mentality of software release by selling the wine before its time.

Bosch Digital Motor Electronics Motronic 5.2 Module Identification
Block 0 (ECU Type) M07
Block 1 (Porsche Part Number) 99361860400
Block 2 (Vendor Part Number) 0261204008
Block 3 (Software Number) 1037355481

Autel AL519 reader displays the individual status Pass/Fail for each readiness code. It has a menu screen dedicated to this.

A pending FAIL for the air injector system was triggered on the first cold start after a clearing of all codes until I replaced the check valve.
Haven't gone through the formal drive process just casual driving triggering a PASS for the other codes.
It has been awhile since I did this so I will verify the above on the Altel scanner next time I am in the car. May be a week or two before I get to this.

Here's info from a '97 DME:
.

Here's info from a '98 DME;

It appears you have '97 or '96 firmware, in which case NO monitors appear on a generic scanner until completion of a minimum of two trips with two cold starts.

Let us know when you begin the monitor setting process.

Here is a screenshot from my generic scanner the first time I have started the car in a couple of weeks. It seems to show the status of the various readiness codes before the final readiness status of all the codes has been reported.

That's a good starting point, i.e. as expected. Now start driving while the scanner is connected. Once you cold start the engine, the AIR with a check mark should show on the scanner, i.e. with the later firmware.

It's been a week and surely you've started your 993 engine. So some of the OBDII monitors should have set, e.g. AIR or EVAP, and be displayed on a generic scanner, right?
But since your firmware is not the latest, no monitors will be indicated on a generic scanner until all the required trips (min of 2) are completed.
