Default Extended warranties

I've noticed some of the threads refer to extended warranties. Are they available for 8-9 year old 993's ?? How much. Are they reliable??
I just got past a fiasco with Warranty Gold on my Tahoe.

Got one for my 993 when I baught it in Oct of 02 (2/yr, 24k miles). Had some little problems and they were good about covering the costs. I have the deluxe package from The Choice Protection Plans. It was sold to me through the dealership.

Do a search on this, we've talked about the merits ( and demerits ) before.

Personally, I don't think it's worth it. But insurance is just playing the odds anyways, so it depends on your comfort level. Also, many extended warranties exclude a lot of things, so you have to read the fine print very, very carefully if you want to get a good deal on them.

I purchased an extended warranty (premium coverage for a '97 targa (46k miles) from National Administrative Solutions Corp for around $3k. POS IMHO. As soon as I had trouble with the car (within 3 weeks of purchase) they told me that the items were considered "pre-existing" conditions - even though they never did a check of the car when they issued the policy. More trouble than its worth - I ended up returning the policy for a refund.

I brought one thru my credit union 24 mo/30K mi. I haven't used in on the C4S but I've used in on my Lexus and they covered it, no problem. They pay with a credit card, with just one phone call. http://www.apcwarranties.com Good Luck.

I don't have one one the Porsche because if it's down for a bit while I fix it that's fine, I drive the truck.
I do however have one on the Wifes Caravan and my Dodge truck. This is her third caravan and both prior vans required transmissions at the 70k mile mark. In those cases the warranties paid for themselves.

I was told it's not worth the money as the company could go under, the repair might not be covered in the fine print, and that they are way too expensive on our cars to be worth the high expense.

I'm gambling on good luck! I pray to the "Low $$$ Maintenance and Repair Expense Fairy" every day, and so far so good. She must be listening to my prayers.

Good luck,
Wouldn't waste another second worrying about it myself...

I've never bought an extended warranty, and I've never regretted it.

Personal opinion, but I think odds are the policy will not cover what you need if I was filing a claim. And/or company may no longer be in business when you need to file a claim. I rather put the 3K in the bank and save it for potential future repairs.

Yes Mo - even my repair shop told me to pocket the $3000 and put it in the bank! They said they're a waste of money 80% of the time.

To each his own, though.
