Default Fuel gauge jumping all over-1995 993

After being parked, my gauge is acting up. What’s the best way to test the sender/gauge? The pelican part number is in stock also at sunset. The 993 part number on sunset seems discontinued. If it’s the sender, which part number do I use?

thanks,

Sign of a poor electrical connection to the gauge. I would pop the gauge out and clean the plug and socket on its back with a little spray electrical cleaner and reseat the plug. This may solve the issue. Also, a loose ground wire (usually the brown wire) from the gauge or sender may cause this. Once you have ruled out all the easy to get to stuff at the gauge end of the wire a similar check at the tank sender may solve your problem.

If none of the above sorts out your issue you may need to use a Volt-Ohm meter to see if the signal to the gauge is erratic if yes the problem is the sender if not the problem is internal to the gauge, however , I feel it is unlikely your problem is with one of these devices.

I checked the connections but I have a full tank of fuel so I can’t pull the sender right now. If I connect the two prong harness on the end of the sender will that move it up or down? I think the sender is shot. It took a lot of gas to show anything and then when I drove it jumped like the sender was erratic.

Thanks man. I had seen that and also had already pulled the sender before I filled up yesterday. I wasn’t clear at first if I was just lower on gas than I remembered and then when I filled up and it went from full to 3/4 and then bottomed out with the light flashing and back up again all in 50 feet taking off from the station and I knew something was up! I only use ethanol free 93 from Adams oil in Powhatan. The darn sender looks nice and clean.

Having similar issues and noticed my sending unit looks clean too. Did replacing it work fix the issue?

Mine isn’t so erratic but still fluctuates from full to 3/4 and then back to full like a mind of it’s own.
