Ralph- did you mean to say 25-3/4 instead of 24-3/4 (as measured from the ground to fender lip)? I don't think you want to go lower than 24-3/4 cuz RS height is around 25 (I think)!

p.s. you can edit your post

Yep - My bad - hit the wrong number - ride height is 25 3/4. Thanks for the sharp eyes . Maybe just "wishful thinking" on part - may be at 24 3/4" someday!

Vicken - I edited my post to correct an error - should have been 25 3/4" ride height. The info I received from Gert indicates (also posted on his web page) that Rennsport sway bar is needed to go any lower (about another 20mm according to Gert). I don't see how but I will re-look at my set later this weekend.

I installed PSS-9's on my car and stayed with the stock OEM swaybars. My ride height measured at the fender lip center point is 24 7/8" front and 25" rear. The supplied droplinks from Bilstein were way too long and I went down to the local commercial Bolt and Nut Supply house and got some high strenght 3/8" stainless all thread, Rod ends and made my own drop links. My rear stock sway bar is on top of the control arm with about 3/8" clearance at static ride height and only increases thru the wheel motion. This has served me well for over 8 months and I am at what I think is RS height. So using stock bars DOES NOT limit your ability to really lower the car...only the drop links supplied with the PSS-9 kit do.

Not to rain on your parade but stainless tends to be much weaker than other forms of fasteners. You really would not want all thread for the connector as this is the thinest and longest component. You should use female connector and male rod ends. Also, the rod ends are critical. Most of the ones you find are in the 4,000 static pound range. I tend to use the ones in the 16,000 lb area... Also carbon / teflon lined so that they do not deteriorate without lubrication. These components are critical for proper and safe operation...

So does anybody sell shorter droplinks that we can use with PSS9? I'm having a hard time accepting that I can only lower my car about 3/4" with PSS9 and stock or M030 sway bars. Moving up to TRG or RS swaybars is a big jump in price. A shorter drop link seems to be the solution, but does anyone sell them?? Maybe taken from another p-car?

rcwelch- any pics of your droplinks?

Ok. I've got a question for all you BTDT's. If you had it to do all over again, what would you get and please be specific.
Thanx all...

Kevin,

Wouldn't change a thing! I'm truly thrilled with how the car handles and looks, and all without a glitch! BTW, haven't received that package yet...

Jeff-
My understanding is that ViperBob's drop links are only marginally shorter than Porsche droplinks and would thus only allow me to lower it a touch more. Certainly nowhere near RS height of about 25". Maybe I need to find a machine shop...

I'm assuming you meant "shorter than Bilstein's" drop links??? Porsche's drop links are pretty long. Bilstein's are shorter, Bob's are even shorter.

I guess a pic is worth a thousand words, so here are a few pics:

All this info ( and the pics ) were found in the archives..

Eric,

There are a couple of non-standard Bilstein ways that you could get your car down little bit more with the links in the PSS9 kit.

1) Mark in Baltimore's shop that installed his PSS9s modified the shock mount with a pinch bolt and a relief cut into the front to allow the shock mount not to require a lock ring

2) The top of the shock mount can be shaved down (about the height of the lock ring) considerably and then still use the lock ring on the top.

3) While the lock ring is critical for the shock mount, it could be argued that the lock ring for the spring perch is unnecessay. There are no forces acting to try and twist the spring perch (especially on the rear), and it has about 1000 lbs of weight locking it in place. There are a number of manufacturers, including Moton, that do not even use a lock ring for the spring perch. I have run a number of different coilovers in the past, and some of them had a lock ring, and some did not. WIth any of them, the perches never turned..

4) Shorter drop link. I could take the drop links that I have and shorten them an inch or so.

Any of these would give you the additional reduction of height. Remember, if you install the factory bars today, and you decide down the road to change to RS or TRG bars, then your will need to remove the rear strut pretty much from the car and reset the shock mount all the way down on the strut body.
