If you're interested in swapping your RS heater bypass back to OEM, I'm interested in installing an RS heater bypass...maybe we can do a parts swap?

For years with my 964 I passed with a cut down air filter and RS heater bypass, but one time I failed because of the air filter modification and had to install a stock piece.

My 993 has given no trouble with an RS bypass so far. Frankly, we all know it has nothing to do with smog anyway, but if an inspector is used to doing Porsche cars they may notice it.

The visual really comes down to "does it look stock" and the knowledge of the inspector as to how it should look.

Took it in to get smogged after the Pelican Parts Cars and Coffee. Big thanks to C4SJOHN, btw. As soon as I pulled up, he was right by the car with the airbox cover. Thanks again, John! I'll get that thing back to you next time I'm the OC or, if you need it sooner for any reason, let me know and I'll either drive it down or maybe just FedEx it to you. C4SJOHN = awesome dude!

Anyway, drove it down to a smog place near the Promenade, where the C&C was held. John's airbox lid didn't fit on the airbox (there was another cover holding in the filter than I hadn't noticed previously and the hinges were somehow reversed on it for that purpose... Maybe it's not a stock airbox after all. Anyway, I asked the smog guys if they thought it would pass. They looked over the thing for a good 20 minutes with flashlights, googled 993 engine pics on their office PC and somehow came to the conclusion that it was visually fine. Threw it on the dyno and was shocked by the low numbers it put out. I'm basically driving a hybrid equivalent !

Drove over to the local AAA expecting a long Saturday line and found a completely empty office. A quick VIN inspection, a rather large check written to the DMV, and I was out of there 10 minutes later with CA plates. Woohoo!

I had just flown in from a business trip to Kansas City a few hours before and didn't have time to wash the car before Pelican, so it got a wash and wax immediately after:



Then I took it out to the AutoConduct meet in Venice, where a memorial was being held for a local enthusiast, Jin Takemura (tsunamiracer on various social media), a great guy with an amazing car collection who passed away two weeks ago.

After my first full day of driving it, I'm in love (although bumper-to-bumper traffic from San Pedro to downtown LA on the way home was not the most fun :P).
