Biannual checkup blues
Here in Switzerland, when a car reaches a certain age, it has to undergo an inspection every 2 years. It just failed now, because they found a couple of small drops of oil under the engine. My Porsche garage will now have to disassemble the engine to fix the source of the leaks. Will be costly. It loses very little oil and I still have my engine tray mounted so that it does not drip. Aggravating.

Switzerland is not car friendly. Radar everywhere. You have to be careful driving because on some stretches they continuosly vary the speed limit every few miles.

So frustrating!
Sorry for your pain.
A few conversations with them about importing my '86 911 was enough to convince me that it was going to be a costly endeavor, so I decided against it.

Can you register the car in another country?
Can you retitle the car, hose off the oil leak and bring it in for a new inspection?

Here in Japan the inspection is also very strict. The car with over 10 years old has a very strict yearly inspection. One new pole which is actually cost-effective is actually to export the car and reimported in which case it comes to the country as a new vehicle requiring inspection only every two years. In terms of oil leaks It often comes down to the garage that’s managing the preparation as to how they want to do with it. Oil leaks are not allowed so many service managers give the car a very good cleaning first and then take it for inspection. If possible I would try that first.

It sure is. A couple of kilometers over the speed limit and you get a 40 Swiss Franc fine (about 35 Euros). It increases exponentially. They have tons of cameras at intersections. I am very careful, and have had about 2 speeding fines in 20 years.

The government should be paying you for your oil leaks as it is not so different from asphalt where every drip is helping build up and protect the road surface!

Is the garage who cleaned your car the same one who would do the work if the leak was to be fixed?
You may be experiencing an agency effect where the garage who cleaned your car economically benefits if the cleaning results in a failed inspection. If this is your case maybe someone else should clean your car.
