Default Steering wheel position/alignment

I have encountered a strange problem with my 95 C4 with 110K miles. Sometimes the steering wheel position in rotation will be of by about 45 Degrees. I notice this happens much more in warm weather. Nothing seems effected by this, the car still points straight and does not pull. It has been happening for the last 20K miles. I assume it has to do with some subspension component, and rubber mounts? My tires wear perfectly, I have gone though three sets in the last year and a half, as a daily driver on a small windy road. Any one else heard of this?

Hi:

The first thing I would do swap your front tires side-to-side and see if the problem "reverses" itself. Might be a tire issue.

Then, your front suspension should really be checked out by an expert on 993's, but I'd be very carefully looking at your tie-rods and A-arm bushings for signs of wear.

If those check out OK, I'd suspect a failing steering rack; something not unheard of at that mileage.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your reply. I have gone through three sets of tires, all with this coming and going problem, so I am sure tires are not involved.

If the tie rod ends, front subspension or steering rack are at fault, could this come and go, not effecting the handleling(allways handles right), pointing(allways goes straight), tire ware(allways even)?
Thanks
Omilu

This can be intermittent if the steering rack is faulty.

I have to ask,......Are ALL the suspension and steering linkage bolts torqued to spec?

Is the steering rack nice and tight in its rubber mounts?

They could be loose, they have never been checked since I have owned it.
I will check, or have someone check these out.
Thanks
