Default Best suspension for all around use...?

I did try reading previous threads but I still wanted to post.
Time to decide....... I drove in keith R3's c4-S his set up felt awesome...
Eibach Springs and Bilstein HD Struts and shocks.

EIB 7209140 Springs
VE3-4693 Front Strut S
VE3-4692 Strut-S
BE5-6131 Rear Shock-S
BE5-6130 Rear Shock-S

I'm trying to see if I am interested in a group buy with Eric & a few others for the pSS9 kit..........

I wonder about the ROW M030 too..?
I probably wont track the car much...
I may want to get new 18" wheels? (17's now)
I do want to take road trips as well as burn through country backroads.
I dont want to feel jolted like a go cart & have screws loosen and rattles occur!
I would like great grip, lower stance, rail - tight turns!!!
Sounds like installed cost including parts is $2200.00 (row m030) vs. $3200.00 (maybe for the PSS9)
Whats the deal with sway bars?? add later?

All I know is that my c2-s has a spongy ride & handles worse than my old 90' 300zx TT

It definately does not even come close to my 88' saleen mustang. That was the best handling car I have ever driven (very impressive). Now why should'nt my Porsche be better?
Which suspension kit is the answer???
I realy appreciatre your help.
Sincerely, Deano

Deano,
I would be in on a group buy for the pss9. Maybe a new thread should be started for that purpose. I wonder, though, if it is possible given that this is most common, high ticket mod.

When I was looking at the option of PSS-9 Versus Bilstein HDs, the price difference was pretty small... especially if you have to go and buy springs with the HDs. I thought the HDs were around $1300 + around $450 for springs... pretty close to the $1935 for the PSS-9 kit. Installation should be the same. Sway bars can be done later, though the front bar is pretty tricky... is it easier with the suspension off? I dunno. With all the labor involved, the price delta is actually pretty small, and you get a lot of adjustability with the PSS-9s. Its a great, all-around setup.

I have the PSS-9 with Turbo sways (22mm front and 21mm rear) and LOVE it. The PSS-9 and sways were $1938.32 delivered to my door from Gert. Installation including alignment, working with me to ultimately get it lowered to Euro M030 height was $1003.01. There are lots of great options, but IMHO...if you get anything else, you could have made a better choice.

Sounds good Allen......... I'm not sure what the 21mm & 22mm refer to? Are there many different choices?

Thanks, deano

Allen,

When did you buy that from Gert? I understand that he does not carry 993 PSS9s anymore.

In addition, PSS9 plus two sway bars for $1938.32 delivered is a spectacular buy. The cheapest PSS9s I see today is $1815, but they can't deliver till summer 04. Two sways would run another $500 minimum extra.

You did great.

I have the M030 set-up and it is AMAZING. I don't track this car, just your normal backroad fun and for that it is perfect. Stable and flat without being harsh. MUCH better then the stock set-up. I too owned a highly modified mustang a supercharged 98 w/ 460rwhp and full track suspension. It handled great but didn't have the feel of my 993.

Deano...the XXmm refers to the actual diameter of the sway bar. There are many choices for front and rear. The 22mm front and 21mm rear are what came on the 993TT, thus referred to as the Turbo sway bars. Many people who track their cars seem to really like the adjustable sway bars. I know relatively little about sway bars. I debated quite a bit on which bars to get, I initially kept the stock bars with the PSS-9 for about 2 months...car handled great. But I reasoned that the upgraded springs and shocks would work better with upgraded (larger) bars, so I got the Turbo bars...couldn't happier!

CP...I bought mine in 2/03 when he was having a sale. I got the PSS-9 and sway bars as a "packaged" deal he was offering at the time...yes it was indeed a great price.

I really must say...regardless which suspension you go with, get the car lowered quite a bit from stock. It makes 1000% difference in the appearance. I can honestly say, that IF the handling would have not improved over stock with the new suspension, the drastic improvement in appearance would have made the $3000 money very well spent

I got the H&R lowering springs, Bilstein HD shocks and 993TT sway bars (fatter rear bar than ROW M030 - same in front) from Gert. Very nice setup for both road and light track. Just make sure that the installer tightens the locking collar on the shocks very tightly.

Hi Deano:

As you should have found, all the comparisons of different setups you need are in the archives. This question has been noodled over every which way.

From your needs description, the PSS-9 offers the most flexibility. I have the H&R coil overs (height adjust only) and like them a lot for street and occasional track. About as firm as I would want on a street car, and I appreciate a stiff sports car ride. I paid $1600 for shocks and about $750 for the install, CB and alignment (prices have gone up.)

Good luck.

Chris

The adjustability of the PSS9 are difficult to compete with. The performance at the different settings is excellent. I would recommend the PSS9's for what your requirements are given the ability to easily adjust them to your performance/ride liking.
