Default Hood emblem installation

Hi, I just received my new silver hood crest from John D. It looks so Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!especially compared to old disco gold!

Now about that rubber grommet thingamagig. It looks like it is supposed to slip around the crest edges. It is not quite large enough so what should I do?? I am sure some form of heat is involved, maybe warm water or maybe pedros ice wax

HELP?? I want to see it on my car this afternoon!

Try placing the grommet under hot water before mounting the new crest.

Ummm - DrZ is absolutely right!!! Soak it in hot water for a minute - and it becomes pliable and can be stretched to the size of the Crest. It you are really neurotic (like me ) - take a toothpick, and you can work it so it is equi-distant around the outside of the Crest, once it's loosely mounted...

Also - another tip is, when you install the mount nuts - just tighten them enough to hold the Crest in place - or after time, you'll curl the edge of the rubber gasket....

Now - we WANT PICTURES!!!

Congrats Steve!!!!

Oh - one other "tech tip" (these are free tips - I can't believe I'm doing product support!! )

Take a look at the Crests as they come mounted to the hood from the factory. The gasket top-edge sits flush with the outside edge of the Crest, rather then encasing it. Sort of - the Crest rides on the top-most part of the gasket... If you line up your old Crest/gasket - you'll see what I mean.....

HTH!!!!

Now - about those pics!!!! You'd be the first to post from the Rennlist Direct page - and to me - that's worth something (don't ask what - I dunno )

Best to you Steve!!!

Hi, I am leaving NH for a week to go to Ft. Lauderdale in the early am. I am still packing and since the front bumper cover is off I am afraid the pictures would not do the justice that these crests deserve. In addition I am having a lot of fun just staring at it in it's little box.........gee I wonder if it knows just exactly how much wind it is going to have to endure?? Should I bless it?? or tape a four leaf clover under it?? Man I better get a beer and think about this whole karma thing?

I think we should have a contest to see the most creative application for our old/gold crests. I am torn between mounting it on my wife's lawn tractor or maybe on top of my mostly empty humidor??

P.S. Are there any members in South Florida that need their 993 excercised while I am down there.......my fees are very reasonable

Hey Steve.....

You are going to be in Florida for a week??? Want to send the Crest/bumper cover to me - along with your 993, and it can join it's brethren in the garage... BTW: does your oil cooler leak??? If not - I can guarantee it will wen you get back

Seriously - have a great trip - and you will be logging in from Florida - right? I don't want you to miss the posts I make about your 993 - should you leave it off... Heh...!!!

Best to you!!!

By the way I showed my dog your picture and told him to keep you out of my garage especially if all you say you need is a beer!

That's an interesting idea - it hadn't occurred to me to stick the old badge on my SRF!

Cute picture, BTW.

I know everyone is into the new silver crest look nowadays. I, for one, am not too crazy about it. I think the original gold crest would be more appropriate for the car since black, red and gold (well...sort of yellow) colors would reflect our 993's German heritage. Well, just little bit of MHO.

...another tip on the crest install: DO NOT over-tighten the mounting nuts. This may damage the convex curvature of the crest and subsequently crack the enamel ( or whatever that material is...don't know what they are exactly...). I had to find out the hard way myself.....

Question removal of "old gold" & install "?"

finally got my silver badge! now...

was hoping to get a little help on removal & install of new one.

i'll follow the water thing & check alignment as john d. mentioned.

but before i begin wanted to see if my (pure guessing) thoughts were the way to go.

1. from the back side, pull old nut/fasteners off w/ needle nose pliers. (right?)
2. remove old badge.
3. place in new badge in same position as old badge.
4. slide new fasteners w/fasteners to be snug... & before tightening...
5. check alignment & adj.
6. tighten... w/ small socket wrench.

7. fini.

so does this sound right??? or am i forgetting something?
btw: is the badge meant to have a slight bend-apart to the posts? as mine new one does...

thanks & cheers!

can't wait to get this thing on.... stupid?

OK, I am out in the garage with the hot water etc. I just read in John's post that the edge of the crest rests above the edge of the rubber grommet. My old one seemed to fit into the rubber. I tried trimming the edges off the old gromet and resting the crest over it. I guess the grommet just provides a "bevel" for the new silver badge? It still seems too short from top to bottom????????? If you have any advice please call me in my garage toll free @ 877-792-7861. I really want to do this today!!!!
Here I go!
