Default Oil pressure gauge problems

Hi everyone,

I was experiencing the following behavior (both the same for just ignition or engine running).
Oil pressure warning light: off
Oil pressure gauge: stuck at top (above 5 bar)

I figured it’s an easy fix and replaced the oil sender. Now it looks like this:

Ignition on:
Oil pressure warning light: off
Oil pressure gauge: 0 bar

Engine running:
Oil pressure warning light: on
Oil pressure gauge: stuck at top (above 5 bar)

Just to be sure I replaced the pressure sender again – didn’t make a difference.

Any ideas what could be wrong? Car is a first MY ROW 993.

Stop the press!

Figured it out due to this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...m-factory.html

The leads on both aftermarket sender units were switched! Now everything works as it should.

On the plus side I’m now very proficient in switching out oil pressure senders on old Porsches.

From left to right: No Name (wrong), ÜRO (wrong), OEM (correct)

Don't be surprised if the dealer part is wrong too. Service new parts either from the dealer and branded Porsche or purchased from an independent warehouse distributor are not controlled like the parts that originally went on our cars. Especially low volume parts made by manufacturers who didn't supply the part in the first place when the car was manufactured, as they say in Star Wars, "A long time ago in a vehicle assembly plant far, far away" or something like that.

To clarify, the gauges are marked correctly. It's just that whoever installed the blade terminals on the replacement gauges got the sizes mixed up. The narrower one for "G" should be .187" wide, the wider one for "WK" should be .250".

Hi Swallowtail,
Thanks for posting the solution. I'm about to do this and your post will save me much trouble!

Exactly, thank you for the clarification. The blades are screwed on and can easily be switched.

One last thought (Andy will love this one)
when they fail is it because of internal mechanical failure or is it just bad connection?
you have 2 spades on 2 screw connections that get regularly baked and occasionally wet
Maybe crimp a couple of rings, lose the spades and seal with dielectric grease is all that's needed?
