Wide Oval Tip repair??
I have a set of OEM Wide oval tips or my C4s that have a lot of scrapes and some missing material on the bottom edges of the tip. Has anyone had these repaired/filled in and rechromed? I bought a set of replacement tips ( non oem) and they are OK, but i'd like to get the OEM tips back on the car. replacing these things is seriously crazy expensive! I appreciate your thoughts.

No experience here, but I would think a good welder/metal worker could do a nice repair.
Good luck.

I think the factory wide ovals are chrome over stainless steel. If that's the case, the chrome would need removal first. Then the deep scrapes repaired by welding & grinding followed by rechroming.
I may be completely mistaken regarding the chrome though.

I believe the OE wide ovals are simply polished stainless. I’ve cleaned mine to perfection by buffing them with a headlight polishing compound.
IMO, these are a must have upgrade and worth the $500 or so they cost.

I believe the material is 303 stainless, and as Andreas indicated, these can be welded up, ground, filed, belt sanded, and finish hand sanded. If the OEM wide ovals are chromed, I would forgo that process, and just have the tips polished if thats thelook you desire...They will look just like chrome!

Yes they are stainless with a chrome finish.
I had the same wear as you. I sanded off the chrome, built up the low areas with TIG, and then sanded and re-polished. I didn't bother having them re-chromed as the polished stainless surface is holding up well.
