Good video and thanks for sharing. Wish I saw this many moons ago when I did my first oil change as it probably would have went quicker with less mess.

That is very well done. I wish I'd had something like that the first time I changed mine.

With this, though, maybe I can get my wife to do it & I'll sit back and have a beer!

I don’t remove the left heater thingy. The oil hits it and goes perfecty down into drain pan, then I just wipe it off.
I find removal of the oil line unecessary. It can be difficult to stick it back in and makes additional mess.
I think last oil change we managed in 40min or so. Filling 8-9qrts of vtwin takes a while.

Also, doing filters every time seems to be unecessary, if your oil change intervals are short in terms of miles.
I took both filters apart that I didn’t change last time around and they were super clean.

EDIT: Good and thorough video tho! My observations above are simply to save time as I do several oil changes a year

Thanks Todd...very helpful!!!!! I always had it done, I may do it now. I recently was doing brakes on my car and found the two nuts for that shroud missing...no one works on it like you do.

Video seems to make it more work than is really necessary:
  • Both filters can be replaced through the wheel well w/o the lift
  • The oil tube does not need to be removed, the small filter can be removed through the wheel well.
  • Not sure why the left rubber heater duct boot was removed. On a 4 oxygen sensor Varioram car it is not needed
  • If you put 10-1/2 quarts in, without draining the oil lines as most don't, you are overfilling the engine
  • As the video makes very clear check the oil level with a hot engine avoiding an overfill condition as to not fill past 1/2 way on the dip stick is the most important step. Fill to 8 quarts and add 4 oz at a time to a hot running engine until oil level reads on dipstick.
  • The small oil filter can be changed w/o removing the transmission under tray shield through the wheel well
  • Any oil spilled on suspension components or shield can be cleaned off with a little CRC spray electric motor cleaner.
  • The idea that you should crank the engine with the relay out is silly.
  • Who really bothers with the filler neck snake. Most are gone by now and a regular long neck funnel works great and doesn't break down and drop plastic debris in your oil tank like the snake will.

^^^ For those unfamiliar with changing oil on a 993, her video is very helpful and probably the best one I’ve seen. You should consider making a video that demonstrates the tricks you’ve discovered, as it would be nice to have out there.

Her video on fixing the fan behind the climate control was also great. Their channel is great.

It would be great if you could show us how that's done.

Next time I change the oil I will demo this, I'm a little surprised that this is not common knowledge.
