My wife is a stickler for doing totally legally.

John
Kim & I went round w/this a while back:

Telephoned the "UPS Hazardous Materials Support Center" & was advised: (1) an airbag is "hazardous material" regulated by DOT, (2) UPS will only transport it from a "contract shipper" w/daily UPS pickup service who provides written certification of compliance w/applicable DOT regs & pays a surcharge, and (3) UPS will not ship it for an individual, period.

... there's no question this is NOT a good time to ship an explosive device illegally.

My suggestion would be to find a local contract shipper, perhaps a car dealership, & see if they'd be willing to ship the air bag for you. Otherwise, I think you're SOL.

I work for a major air carrier and we have to ship HazMat all the time. We do so via FedEx, but I believe there is a $50 per package HazMat fee - high, of course, but at least they'll transport it for you.
