Post spark plugs????

back in april when I was getting my PPI (95 993), I had a look at the plugs that were removed for the compression test. They were twin electrode 180 degrees apart. Were these installed from the factory? Curious when do they 'really' need to be changed? Also, which brand should be used?

Anyone notice a difference with new plugs. My car has 41k miles on her.

Thanks

Chris

Do you have an owner's manual? Have you read it? Look at what they recommend. Do the numbers match what came out of the car?

I used Beru 14 FR5 DTU spark plugs in my car; manual recommended and these are triple electrode plugs. I change them at 30K miles (shop manual sez do them every 40K km; don't know what owner's manual sez - will let you read yours). No performance change due to replacement - plugs are clean when they come out. However, I'll continue this maintenance interval to avoid the plugs potentially freezing in the cylinder heads (I DID have this experience on an old '84; required engine removal and dissasembly to remove a plug that I had snapped in half because it had frozen in place).

Chris, if you still have the dual electrode plugs I strongly recommend that you change them and I can guarantee you a noticeable difference in power across the rpm range. I was in the same boat until about three weeks ago.

The dual electrode plugs (.8mm gap) belong in the TT. The dealers are notorious for giving you the wrong plugs. The dealer part number you want is 999 170 182 90 or 999 170 183 90. At a minimum, ensure that your replacement plugs are the triple electrode type (.7 to .75 mm gap).

Hi Chris:

IMHO, you cannot go wrong with the Bosch FR5DTC plugs,...

These are simply excellent.

Question

The owners manual lists Bosch FR 6 LDC and FR 5 DTC as well as the Beru 14 FR 5 DTU and 14FR 6 LDU for the Carrera.

My car's plugs are original to the car. They are Beru 14 FR 6 LDU and have two electrodes.

Are the plugs with the number 6 considered to be for a hotter or cooler heat range?

Thanks everyone for the replies! I remember asking the PPI guy if they are original and he said they sure are. I remember asking about the twin electrode and all.

Maybe a plug change is in order. Thanks again all!

FR5DTC, wholeheartedly agree with Steve.
At roughly $75 a set, and if you are DIY, good afternoon project.
