Best tires for 1997 993 C4S
#2
Arguably, the Michelin PS2 is the best tire for the 993. Also the most expensive usually.
I run Continental ExtremeContact Sports on my 993 C4S, which, for street use only, give pretty much all of the performance I need of the Michelins for about 40% less money

From what i have read on this site a lot guys are using Sumitomo HTR Z III. I have never used them but price is about $160.00 per tire and they grip very good also last as long as other pricey brands. I will be needing tires in about 10,000 miles and will be reading anything and everything i can find about Samis.

I am now an old guy, and I like all-season high performance tires on most, but not all, of my cars (the Elise has summer tires).
I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires on my E36 M3 and 993 C4, and I like them.

They don't make the original rear size for your 18" wheels, so (unlike everyone else on this forum!) I'd slightly narrow the rears from 285/30-18 to 265/35-18, get the all-season Michelins, and be happy knowing that if I got caught in low temperature, wet conditions, my tires would still stick.
My C4 has 225 width F and 255 width rear (17"), balance is fine, so 225F and 265R 18's should be fine on your car, too. That rear size is a common choice when using snow tires, and the load capacity exceeds the standard size.

Is there anything new this year for the 993 C2S that would be a contender against PS2s?
I don't know enough about the trade offs involved to run super sports 235's in front and 295's in rear like Opo.
I see some chatter that PS4s are 'coming soon', but not yet available for us, but I don't want to pull trigger on PS2s until I confirm that.
I am currently running older Potenzas that are aging out (Front 225/40-18; Rear 285/30-18). Many thanks.

there are many, many recent threads in the 993 forum about this.
look for posts by Nile (something) or me if you want max stick in dry weather oriented suggestions.

cgfen, Thank you. I have a short list based on my research as you suggested, but most interested in any new developments in 2018 and if PS4s are on the cusp of availability. Appreciate the thought given this is a well discussed topic.
