Question Help! Where to find a 97/98 993?

Dear 993 enthusiasts,
I am search of a 97 or 98 993 C2 or C4, preferable Silver (hey, at least I know what I'm looking for!). I have read the FAQ, searched the forum, reviewed classifieds, searched all Porsche dealers within 500 miles, etc. Although I have run across a couple in the classifieds (insanely high prices ($66K-68K), I am curious if anyone can point me in the right(er) direction?
Truly appreciate any help,
G

Join Porsche Quest program thru the PCA.....also, if you want "what you want" contact Ray Joseph at RPM MotorSports....you will pay, but he has some very nice cars

I would suggest a white C4S. That will make things interesting around here.

That color and years should be fairly common esp for a C2. Have you subscribed to thalist.com and setso.com?? Other Rennlsiters have also had good experience using vehicle locaters.

I found mine on ebay and it couldn't have worked out better (great car, price, and seller). Maybe I was lucky (I've heard horror stories), but ebay has been great for me (I've also sold a couple cars there with good results).

Think about cars WAY out of your 500 mi range limit. I bought a car 750 miles from my house and had some friendly Rennlisters check it out for me. When I got the go-ahead, I flew out there, bought it, and drove it home. We love to help, as what goes around comes around. If you happen to find a car in the Washington DC metro area, I'd be happy to look at it for you and recommend a place for a PPI.

Silver - a great, classic, conservative color for the 993. You have mighty fine taste, and dirt and grime won't be much of a concern like it would on a black car.

I'll second what Steve said. I bought my car from a guy in NY and my wife and I had an absolute blast driving it back here to Houston. It gave me some time to really get to know the car and what it can do. I highly encourage the experience.

And Steve is right about silver being easier to keep up. If I even look at my car funny it gets a new scratch! Happy hunting!

Silver rocks. I know, I'm on my 4th. Ebay has been good to me. Just have a PPI done with the help of rennlisters and i doubt you will be disapointed. I sold my last couple of P-cars on ebay and the buyers drove or flew in and drove them home. All were very happy with their cars.

Autotrader.com also has lots of cars. I know several people in the various PCA regions in the Carolina's and Knowville, TN (Smokt Mountain) that would be glad to help including myself in Raleigh or Myrtle Beach.

Default Wow!

What a gracious group. Thanks for being so damn supportive of the newbie. Truly appreciate the commaraderie an offers to help. Feel free to keep eyes and ears open on my behalf, if you would! As far as pricing, I show $40K-$50K more realistic than $65K-70K - sound realistic to you?
Appreciatively,
G

Greg - There will be a significance difference in price between the narrow and wide (S) body cars. All 98's are wide, so maybe that's what you're looking for. The 97's came in narrow and wide for both the C2 and C4 (Carrera S and Carrera 4S are the wide). You can now buy very nice narrow cars in the $30k's and wides in the $40k's and $50k's depending on condition and mileage. Also, since you're looking for Silver, make sure you acquaint yourself with the two most common versions, Polar and Artic (Polar is tinted slightly Blue and is very beautiful IMHO - I'm biased...). Good luck!

Greg,

Did the exact same search, which was closed 6 months ago, with a 1997 Arctic Silver C4S.

Be happy to help with any tips and traps. PM me.

I would just be patient while trying to find the right car. If I was was looking again, I will still check the various sources listed, it could take months finding the "right" one, but to me was a real fun experience.

www.rpmsportscars.com

Great cars in excellent condition. Expect to pay a premium.

I bought my car from them and it was showroom condition.

To clarify: All '98 Coupes were widebodies, but Targas and Cabs are always standard-bodied. There was no '97 C4 in the US, just the C4S.
