Default Coping strategies for poor fender visibility

Hi folks, one thing I miss about my 996 when I drive the 993 is seeing the beautiful red fenders. How do people cope with the fender-blocking wipers? I'm a reasonable 5'10" and already sit pretty close to the steering wheel.

My vantage point, with a janitorial accessory front and center

Miss the stirring red fenders of my first 991, a 996 4S.

You must already know what everyone is going to comment on before responding to your question...

There's a method I've seen on here to make your wiper rest on the passenger side.

AND you need to replace that windshield.

Search the archives for the modification whereby your wipers will sit on the passengers side instead. If I recall, it's not as easy a mod as it sounds to make, and I believe you also lose the intermittent wiper function, but it will clear your view as the wipers will sit on the other side

Totally agree! One super easy method to achieve a clear screen is to just pull the wiper relay. Then the wipers become completely manual, and only moves while the wiper stalk is pressed-down. You quickly learn the timing and can make it do one quick swipe. Not for everyone, but it's a quick way to move the wipers if you want to test it.

That's a cool idea I had not heard before.

Coupla phone books, mebbe?

Or perhaps keep your eyes as far down the road as possible since you shouldn't be looking at the fenders anyway?

Welcome!

Get a new windshield.

Leave the wiper blades where they are.

This is a 993 not a 996 use those side mirrors instead to enjoy the true aesthetics of your car!

If one has target fixation on their hood or their wipers, god help them!

Loosely defined, target fixation is a behavior in which a person becomes so focused on a singular object that they tend to ride (or drive) straight into it. ... In other words, it's easier to for a motorcyclist to steer their vehicle toward an object than it is to do so while driving a car.Oct 20, 2015

I don't understand you Mark. Your advice comes from a gray, dark place. Firstly, phone books don't exist anymore. Secondly, I save that kind of looking for when I heel and toe at a hairpin. Otherwise, I like to look at the beautiful hair flowing in the wind in the passenger seat next to me, and at the titillating red curves of the car. I suggest you try driving a non-gray Porsche
