S02's vs S03's (was Tire experience)
That thread started to drift like a bad set of Pirelli Rossos.. jeez. Anyhoo, I am going to buy a set of S02's (N2) in a couple of days, (yeah, all four) for my new rims.. I had heard that they were still better then the S03's.. I had loved them when I had them on my C4, but I've never driven a set of S03's.. What do you think? The S03's seem to have quite a bit of water moving technology-.. Not that I drive in the water too much, but then..

The best tires I had for either 996 I've owned is easily Yokohama AVS Sports. On my 01 996 I went through 4 sets of rears (3 SO3's and 1 SO2A) before the fronts were gone with no track time or ax (at 23K miles 4th nearly worn). To be fair, when my S02's showed cupping before wearing, Bridgestone replaced them for a reduced rate with S03's which wore alarmingly fast. Because I didn't want new fronts, I had to keep replacing the rear's. Otherwise, I would have switched to AVS's earlier as I had them on the 99 996 and they were great.
I did have H&R suspension and an agressive alignment (according to Porsche dealer), but I had the same setup on the earlier car with twice as much tire life as I was getting out the SO3's.
All of this is moot of course since you are asking about the 993 and not the 996. However, everyone I know with a 993 has complained about similiar (and alarming) rear tire wear issues.

I have had S02 in both my cars (actually that is what I have in them today). Next time I need tires I am going with the Yokohama AVS Sports. Good enough tire at a lower price.

Try the Toyo T1-S if you want a decent tire with good/great wear. I put close to 15K miles on a set before they needed replacement.
Toyo also has a 235/18 for the fronts.
