Default New Winter Symptom - Tiptronic Stuck in Park When Cold? SOLVED

I just finished reading several of the "Stuck in Park" threads and do not have any of the oft-mentioned causes - e.g. **** not fully seated, bad brake light switch, obvious cable misadjustment, etc. What I have is very specific - I can't depress the shift lock button for brief periods when the car is first started - only when the outside temp is cold. This just started as the temps fell into the 40's and below. It feels as if there is an interlock that's waiting for something to happen - as after a short time you can feel something release it. This is as soon as 15 seconds and as long as a minute - seems to be dependent on temp. The factory manual details all the sensors that feed the Tip ECU, and I can't see any that fit this issue. It's too soon for the ATF temp to come up - and also too soon for any warming of the various cables that might be affected by cold temps..

Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Ron

Ron,
Since your issue seems to be temperature related, have you seen this service bulletin? I don't know if the gear oil is relevant but it seems worth mentioning...

Thanks HTH - that is indeed helpful. I plan on changing the ATF as the next step and the info on fluid specs is timely.
