Cupholder For A 993?
#16
Anyone remember the name of that company that was develpoing a cupholder for the 993 (they already had many for BMW/Benz) where it sits on the floor, against the driver's side tunnel?
To my memory, this seemed like the better solution since the cup's bottom is actually sitting on the car's floor and the entire unit's location seemed to better brace the drink in more "spirited" driving. Can someone post the link if they remember.

Cupholder for a genuine (ie 993) Porsche
I'm just wondering if this topic has ever come up in a Ferrari Forum???
The 993 is a SPORTS car!!!

here's a thought...drink at the house/restaurant/friends house.
I've looked to trade for a 996 and specifically omitted cars WITH cupholders.
But hey...I spent a little bit of money upgrading my stereo and honestly I never turn it on because I like to listen to that glorious flat sex and Robin's RSRs.

Edward,
Mike Cap is correct it is Ultimate Cupholders. A couple of months ago, after moving back to the Northern VA area, I hooked up with Mike at UC so he could take a look at my car and do some measuring. I haven't heard from him in a while but he was working on it. The challenge he was dealing with was finding a manufacturer for one of the parts - the manufacturers were trying to charge him an insane setup fee of 10-15k or something.
I'll shoot him an email and see where he is in the process.

The one from drinkholders.com is $50, whereas the one above is $13. Is this a case of get what you pay for?
It does not appear to adjust as much as the drinkholders.com one does. The ones in the center console appear to pose an awkward location to get your drink while driving (having to twist around to get it).

I have an "ultimate cupholder" from a now-sold 540i, and I also have the Passat model. Ive already dinged the Passat one when open a few times putting stuff on the passenger's floor, so that it doesnt open/close so well anymore. Not exactly sturdy, but not bad and when it's folder it's less obtrusive.
The ultimate one is a nice piece and works well, too, except that it is always there and cannot be folded away (it can of course be removed quickly).
To the purists--I try not to drink (and never eat) while driving my cars, but I like to carry a bottle of water with me and now it's not in jeopardy of flying around the cabin during high-G manuevers!

Nice, thanks so much - The photos are very helpful and also show the cupholder from the top angle - it was unclear from the javascript movie on the web site selling those just what it looked like inside from the top view.
One question - what sized screws did you use and did you have to drill into the console (I would assume so). Is there stuff - wires, etc. inside that console that can get messed up by drilling the holes - I guess you don't let the drill bit go way inside??? Just curious if there are places you want to avoid dtilling in that general area? Any screw or type?

Patentman -
The screws come with the cup holder. I used a 1/32" drill with a drillstop set for 1/4" depth, I have checked for wires in the past, in my case they were out of the way. Good Luck!!
