Hello:

I have the complete TSB (W-301) for wiring harness issued by PAG for all US and Canadian 993s.

There are 36 pages for the 95-96 NA, and 30 pages for the 96 Turbo.

I would be more than happy to fax or overnight this set to anyone with facilities to duplicate for interested members.

I would just like it back when finished.
Thanks.

re the bubbling
I think that the UK OPC are very reluctant to honour this.
As well as the above 'points' they insist that you have had the annual paint inspection at an OPC and have had all of your servicing done by OPC. Then they try to convince you that it has been repainted by a non OPC. I think that they are essentially making it impossible to claim on this warranty in the UK , while still being able to claim it in their heritage/ advertising 'BS' to flog the chilli pepper.
Once again the US dealers seem more receptive to these warranty claims. I guess with any business you have to protect the cash cow!

My car was in at PAG yesterday afternoon to have the bubbling looked at. I'll let you know what happens. I'm very interested in reading that 20-page tome on the problem.

Hi Everyone,

I had a call this evening from AFN Chiswick about the trims and it was the same story - it's not part of the body so it does not count. I think we might have a stronger claim under Sale of Goods Act. Do we have any UK lawyers in the house? They are clearly not dealing with individuals so a group approach may be better. I'll copy this post onto my other trail about the window trims.

Cheers,

David

PS Good luck Rob!

Folks,

I spoke to Phil Hatton at PCGB this morning.

He said the same notice has come to PCGB.

He said that they are collating all the information at the moment to send out to dealers and 993 owners (where they have the info).

It will still be a few weeks before all the info is collated and sent out.

When I get hold of a digital camera I'll post some pictures of the bubbling that I have been experiencing. Since the rust has now affected the bodywork PCGB have approved work on that area. They won't rectify the isolated bubbling under some of the seals. I'll let you know the outcome of the situation.

FWIW, rust bubbles are a semi-common problem on 964's also. Obviously, most 964's are now outside the warranty period so can't help with that. We may be able to help with finding good body shops where you get quality work without getting totally ripped-off, as lot of owners have already been there, done that, bought the re-spray.

My car will be going in over the next few weeks and I will be posting (hopefully) before, during and after pics on the 964 board. This may provide data on how and what the rust is affecting under the rubber seals etc. - it may be useful you never know?

Thanks Christer,

Some good recommendations on what to do if we bite the bullet and get trim repainted (anodised?)would be useful. Apparently, the front ones come off easily and the rear ones need the side windows to be popped out so it's quite involved. AFN Chiswick suggested Stg1,000 to remove and replace!

Cheers,

David

Thumbs up

David the rear windows are a simple jobs to get out. It took me all of 30 secs. To get them back in takes about 5 min. The trims are then held on by three small screws. Pop over if you want a hand. I'm just down in Harefield.

Hi Yank,
Just out of curiosity . How does the Imprezza compare to the C2?
Harefield, must be some great driving roads round there. I only really know the cut to the M25 via the lock and that's pretty picturesque.

Hi Greg,

I may take you up on that offer some time as I will need to get this sorted at some point as it looks so tacky. All I need now is good way of refinishing them. My old 3.2 seemed to have black anodised trim but this looks more like paint?

Thanks,

David

Tito, the Imprezza is one hell of a tool in the right time and place, but on a dry smooth road it frankly just pisses me off with all the understeer. Its a import so the power is almost the same as my C2 but it has no low down grunt. You have to always be in the right gear or you find yourself out of the sweat spot of the turbo. The handling in the wet is much better than the C2, but on a dry road it would have no hope to even get close. I can go around the jct 17 M25 roundabout a good 10 mph more in the C2 and when it has had enough the tail just wags a little and that to me is what driving is all about not this washing out of the front end rubish!! The most important differnce is it just doesn't have that sense of occasion when you get in it. It's fast will scare you silly but at the end of the day it has no heart. By the way, they just repaved that road past the pub! he he he love that bit of road.

Nothing more to report since Tuesday.

In case you missed it:

I intend to call him again in a couple of weeks.
