ANother Strange smell!

Default ANother Strange smell!

Last nite i figured it was time for a road trip.
I loaded up the whole family in the wagon.. err
I mean the TT and we go to Lancaster Ca for
some shopping -about 85 miles away. Its cold
and I am runnign the heater. We go to the mall
then we go home- I stop at chevron and fill
up and get on the road (we are about 10 minutes from
the mall, 75 miles from home) I start up the car
and it smells like a burnt cigarette or burnt coffee or
burnt candy. Real strong. Then I turn off the heater
and it goes away. 20 miles from home I turn on the
heater and no more smell. any ideas?? I turned it
on several times on the way home and I smelled it
less and less till it was gone. I have no clue.
when it first started I was still in the gas station
and I got out and could not smell anything unusual
outside the car.

OG,

Did you see that thread where the guy found a mummified mouse in his 993 engine? Do you know where your cat is? Hey... just trying to be helpful.

Steve, thats funny but this was 70 miles from home
next to in and out!! When are we gonna meet on hwy14 some
where??

Joanie is still down for the count; recovering from shoulder surgery, so I have to do all the errands, xmas shopping, etc. Next weekend, I pay a wallet-emptying visit to viperbob. PSS-9s... here I come! I don't know when we can meet. I may have some furlough time between xmas & New Year... you gonna be around?

Hi, I live in NH and when I started using the heat this fall I experienced some goofy burnt smell also. I suspect it might have to do with some crap collecting in the exchangers during non use. It almost went away but ssince I am driving the car a lot less now I am not sure if the smell has ceased. My 2 cents

Sure am not going anywhere -except to see you somewhere.
I hope joanie is OK a guy at work had Orthro shoulder surgery
yesterday!

the problem sounds like a home A/C unit when the heater hasn't been used all season and the first time it's used all the accumulated dust gets burned off and produces a bunt smell. just a thought
