Default ANother Strange smell!

Last nite i figured it was time for a road trip.
I loaded up the whole family in the wagon.. err
I mean the TT and we go to Lancaster Ca for
some shopping -about 85 miles away. Its cold
and I am runnign the heater. We go to the mall
then we go home- I stop at chevron and fill
up and get on the road (we are about 10 minutes from
the mall, 75 miles from home) I start up the car
and it smells like a burnt cigarette or burnt coffee or
burnt candy. Real strong. Then I turn off the heater
and it goes away. 20 miles from home I turn on the
heater and no more smell. any ideas?? I turned it
on several times on the way home and I smelled it
less and less till it was gone. I have no clue.
when it first started I was still in the gas station
and I got out and could not smell anything unusual
outside the car.

OG,

Did you see that thread where the guy found a mummified mouse in his 993 engine? Do you know where your cat is? Hey... just trying to be helpful.

Joanie is still down for the count; recovering from shoulder surgery, so I have to do all the errands, xmas shopping, etc. Next weekend, I pay a wallet-emptying visit to viperbob. PSS-9s... here I come! I don't know when we can meet. I may have some furlough time between xmas & New Year... you gonna be around?

Hi, I live in NH and when I started using the heat this fall I experienced some goofy burnt smell also. I suspect it might have to do with some crap collecting in the exchangers during non use. It almost went away but ssince I am driving the car a lot less now I am not sure if the smell has ceased. My 2 cents

the problem sounds like a home A/C unit when the heater hasn't been used all season and the first time it's used all the accumulated dust gets burned off and produces a bunt smell. just a thought
