Default Latest issue of Excellence and 993 prices

Has anyone else seen the February 2004 issue of Excellence and the price guide on 993's and 964's (page 81). I am a bit confused. There seems to be a wide gap between sellers' advertised prices and the quoted market price set out in the guide (particularly for 993's in excellent condition). To me, it seems the price differential is around $5k.

I'm just wondering where Excellence gets its data from? When I looked at the pricing in the classifieds of the same magazine, they were CONSIDERABLY higher than the pricing guide.

You would think that the prices quoted in that mag would be spot on for the bay area as they are in Novato.

Perhaps Mr. Anderson was a more useful resouce....price wise...in the days prior to the internet. It seems as though one can know do their own research and draw their own conclusions as to the market value of a particular car.

According to my research, those prices seem reasonable for what I've seen around these parts. There is one dealership in town with a few lower-mileage 993's that are being offered for insanely high, i.e., high sixties, prices. Also the Rennlist classifieds seem a lot higher than what I can find on autotrader or other places like it. If prices were higher in CA bay area I would not be shocked at all.

No way in hell a NA 993 is worth near $70k when there are so many to be had out there - a late aircooled engine simply doesn't mean that much. Asking prices on new Porsches seem to be climbing the insanity ladder as well, but I think I prefer the type 993 over the 996 anyway.

Keep in mind that Anderson add 10% for low mileage all other things being equal. He considers low mileage under about 7K/yr.

So as an example, an excellent 96 C4S with under 50K miles would be around $49K per the chart.

Just bought a midnight blue 96 coupe with 8500 miles in showroom condition for $41000 and could'nt be happier. With an original window sticker at $71000+ the PO took a $30000 hit for those 8500 miles and he treated it very well.
