Post New Porsche Tech Service Bulletin

Porsche has issued a TSB for 1995-1996 993 and 1996 993 Turbo that involves replacing the engine wiring harness on affected cars. The TSB states that Porsche will contact those affected.

This has to do with early deterioration of insulation wires.

Apparantly there are several hundred cars involved.

PCNA says will notify all known vehicle Owners directly by First Class Mail during w/o 10/21.

My concern would be people who have purchased previously owned 993s should check with dealers.

Is there any info. that we can check our cars against - VIN, build date, etc?

I had mine checked during last service and it was fine, but would still replace w/ update version if PCA is fronting the tab...

PCNA states that "not every vehicle in the listed "range" of VIN numbers is affected. "Use the ranges below as a general guideline. Specific VIN numbers can only be checked thru dealer.

"The affected Vehicles Identification Numbers are contained in the following VIN-ranges.

Model Year 1995 vehicles:
WP0AA299XSS320061 to WP0AA2998SS324139 (US Coupe)
WP0CA2997SS340065 to WP0CA2998SS343718 (US Cab)
WP0AA2993SS320158 to WP0AA2990SS324104 (Camada Cp
WP0CA2990SS340389 to WP0CA2990SS343535 (Canada Cb

Model Year 1996 vehicles:
WP0AA2996TS320074 to WP0AA2990TS321902 (US Coupe)
WP0CA2998TS340061 to WP0CA2990TS341155 (US Cab)
WP0DA2990TS385063 to WP0DA2990TS385273 (US Targa)
WP0AA299XTS320143 to WP0AA2991TS321620 (Canada Cp
WP0CA2999TS340120 to WP0CA2993TS341098 (Canada Cb
WP0DA299XTS385068 to WP0DA2994TS385244 (Canada Tg

I probably shouldn't be doing this, but there may be some 2nd or 3rd 993 owners who would not otherwise be contacted by PCNA.

Please do not include me in any conversations with Porsche dealers. I'm just relaying information. I have no other knowledge other than what is printed on the page.

I have a 95 C2 and it looks like my VIN falls within the range of the new TSB.

I have placed a call to Carlsen Porsche and the service agent took down my VIN # and phone and promised to look it up and call me back.

I will post further when I hear something more.

Well, I got a call back already from Brian at Carlsen who said he checked with Porsche and he states that my VIN # is not part of any recall to date.

This does not seem to coincide with the information posted here. I will check back in a few days.

The big message I'm getting from all of this is the Internet travels faster than even a Porsche. I don't think the dust has settled, and while the Porsche network is generally aware of the issue, no one has all the loose ends tied up. Even if you look like you are affected (I'm in that category), everything I'm hearing is give it a week or 2. The dealers will have authorization at that point, as it takes a bit of labor just to pull off enough parts to get to the wiring harness to see if it is an affected PN or not, or in my case, if it was replaced or not. THEN he/she can schedule you in.

Net net...enjoy the cars another week or 2, then bug the dealers again.

Good luck

Do they have a specific list of VIN 's that are affected? So why don't they just issue those rather than a range full of holes?

Tito is right,

I'm in b/ween the affected vin numbers, yet when I called 1-800-PORSCHE & Champion Porsche, both said I'm not one of those w/ bad harness.
There were certain production brakes when these 993s were made, so not all certain vin number 993s have bad harness.

Better check w/ Porsche or dealer.
