Default paintless dent removal...success/failure/advice?

I have 3 dime to quarter size dings that I want to get taken care of. two are on the doors, one on the top of the front fender.

how do they get to these? does this paintless process work on the 993? is there a certain process I should look for over others(Im sure these guys do this differently). any advice?

PDR works great - ask around to your Indy shop and local P club for the right guy to do it. Also a trusted body shop will know the right guy too.

Those areas are easy to access. They all use the same process - a bunch of tools that look like stuff from the Titanic maintenance shop and a light that magnets on to the car to show the dent in 3D.

It's the guy who does it that matters so do some homework. My PDR guy is on my Christmas card list......

Work great as long as:

- paint not cracked
- edge of panel is not involved

Some dings are removed by sticking a device to it that has a spring loaded hammer built in. The dent is pulled up slightly by the device. The stick on piece is replaced and the dent is pulled out a little more. This process is.repeated many times, until the dent is pulled out and nearly flat. Where it is to high, it is hammered back down. Where low, it is pulled.up some more.

Don't just call one in the phonebook. Get the best dent artist you can find. High line auto dealers use these artists, so ask around. Find one that knows Porsches. Do it. You won't regret it.

I had a bad "ding" right on a body line of my Acura RDX. Figured no way they would be able to fix it. Hour later and you could not find any sign of it. I would use them again in a second!

Door ding, middle of passenger door. A little over an hour it was gone.

He advertised in he local region PCA newsletter. Vetted him through a few indy shops.

A great service, go for it.

I used independent dent artists twice. Once on my wife's new Lexus a few years ago when a doe ran into the side of it while she was driving about 35 mph. Both doors were dented. That cost me $600 to fix, but no claim and no ding on that CarFax. Second time happened in the garage on a ladder. Wife came back early and opened the garage door. That knocked me off the ladder and towards my 981 Cayman S, and I put a ding in the roof with my elbow. That cost me $200 with a different dent artist. He said he loves working on Porsches because the paint is so tough. He pointed to a Ford and said every time he works on cheap vehicles like that, the paint easily pulls off due to poor bonding. And he hates to work on repainted panels for the same reason. Take that for what it's worth, but he seemed sincere about Porsches having great paint.

My C2S was similarly smacked in the driver's door at noon on a sunny summer day. PDR fixed it as new.

I've used PDR multiple times on multiple cars and always been fully satisfied. It's been awhile but my local place charged about $75 per dent IIRC.

As others have said, the outcome depends heavily on the person doing the work. Ask around.

Dentman Jay (Jay McBain) is north of Boston. He covers most of the major shops. I had him remove 9 acorn hits on the trunk of my Mercedes, some serious door dings on my wifes MDX and a pretty serious ding on the qtr panel of a friends black Cayman. All with stellar results.

Also be aware that if the panel has previous repairs which required paint and body work, the bondo and paint can crack during PDR work depending on the particular dent and the PDR technique applied.

Jay McBain. He is an artist. He used to be the "in-house" Dent Wizard tech before establishing his own business. I have used him multiple times and have zero hesitation recommending him. Glad to further comment

Er..didn't read the entire thread. Please consider my comments a second endorsement of Mr. McBain. Apologies to 95_993.

+993 for Dent Man Jay McBain. He's worked on three of my 993's. He's great at what he does, and knows the ins and outs of our cars. http://www.dentmanj.com/#2603

Also a shout out to Rick Nelson at Unique Car Care. They just wrapped my 993 in XPel this week. Really incredible work. http://uccboston.com
