Question My front end is higher!-ROW M030/Bilstein

I know this has been beaten to death and I have read all the threads. BUT...I need some help. I just picked up my car and the front end is 1/4 to 1/2" higher than the back after installing ROW M030/Bilstein HD suspension upgrade. The car has been corner balanced and everything appears to have been done correctly. I do only street driving and want the car lowered to what a European equivalent car would be. What should I do? I have not found the definitive answer going back through the archives other than maybe I ordered the wrong setup. What are my options:?

1- order Euro ROW shocks?
2- Try a different spring on the front?
3- Can I have the rear raised higher so I at least have a rake?

Thanks in advance.

My installer's solution was to cut about 1/2 turn of the thin part of the front springs. My car is 1/8" lower in front than rear. I have no handling or bump steer issues. The same was done to a friend's 993 at the same time. Some will opine that this is not a good solution, and there are other solutions, as Viken has offered.

I recently installed the same setup. My front is about an 1/8" higher than the rear.

Two things:

1) Increase the rear height to match the front.
2) Lower the rear height and lower the front height even more to get it to RoW levels.

The second is my option. Viken had mentioned that Hergesheimer fabbed a piece to do this on the Bilstein shocks. I e-mailed them and am still awaiting a reply. Once I get the reply, I will pm you and give you the details.

Mark...thanks a lot for your reply. I will probably do that along with you. Let me know when you get the info on the fabbed piece.

Will do. I am pretty excited about it as I really like the looks of the lowered car. Mine was just not lowered enough.

The sad thing is that the solution is very simple: Bilstein should just put another 1 inch of threads on the shock body when they make them.

You could have someone machine more threads after the fact, but they would not be contiguous with the original threads. So not a solution.

I'm trying to find an equilvalent shock that has enough threads, and will post if I am sucessful.

Craig:

Really no need, as Herge's extension, in effect, adds more thread. Viken posted a pic of it a week (?) ago. Take a look.

I am looking out for a suspension change on my C4. I have done a search on the Bilstein HD-ROW M030 combo. Noted that it is posted requiring setting ride height "high" in the rear and "low" in the front for correct rake. This leaves very little effectve room for setting the ride height to your preferences.

It seems to me that the Bilstein HD's are not sized for the ROW M030 springs. Some posters have adressed the spring perch or the spring length. The other logical route is to find some matching springs other than ROW M030.

Has anyone tried the Bilstein HD with the Eibach Pro-Kit or H&R lowering springs? Or with a0 dual spring set-up from a PSS-9? Bilstein must have made these shocks to work with a set of springs for the 993.

Hi Mark,

Yes, I'm very aware of that collar. My concern is that it may not be legal in POC Stock and Improved classes. They specifically prohibit changing the suspension mounting points in any way. That does not necessarliy include this collar, but I'd prefer a correctly threaded and sized shock if I can achieve it. This would not only allow for proper rake, but also some lowering above and beyond what the springs provide. (It appears that Viken's "Herge Collar" doe sthis as well)

I noticed on Bilsteins site that they make a PSS kit for some cars (but not the 993 yet). It is similar to the PSS-9 kit, but without the adjustment *** with 9 settings. This may work as a shock if they make it in a size to fit the 993. And hopefully we coudl buy just the shock, because for those same POC classes we are limited to the USA M030 springs.

Thanks Craig. I was not aware of the POC rule. I'll find out what the deal is.

I don't think adding a collar (spring perch) would change the actual mounting points. I had the Dopke Design spring perches on the front of the car (993) at one time with stock springs. These seemed similar to Hergie's mod developed for Viken. The collar simply allowed the front spring to "perch" lower than was possible with the stock perch.

Could not use the perches in the rear...no threads on the stock Monroe shocks.

Since you are just running for fun, I suggest you order up the PSS-9 set up with the 993RS bars. You'll be in Production, but who cares. 2003 class for your car will be L. We will be running against Turbo cars and 993 cars...lots of fun in my opinion.

Just get the PSS9s and the RS bars and get it over with. And, have Hergie fabricate a bar for you that mounts into some place other than the out-board rear seat mounts with a removeable cross bar, or bars.

Without a bar, you can't run at Big Willow with POC. And, you know you won't be happy just driving the Streets of Willow. <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" /> See you at the track.

As Martin said above, I also recommend PSS-9's. They offer the flexibility of street and track in one solution. You pay more for these, but you're paying for that in flexibility.
