Jeff96, I am almost positive that the supplement is going to say a date newer than January of 1996 is okay. That is what I heard from my service manager and my DSM. I will let you know if I see the supplement.

A bit high, given they had easier access to it. I am sure this would be the "rack rate" for replacing the check valve and didn't cut you any slack. It is a PITA to replace, however, so that is not unreasonable.

Yikes, Tim! I picked up my 993 and returned the free Boxster loaner I've had for 4 days today and they had replaced the same part number air check valve on mine for free! My total bill was $52.25 as I had my engine air duct replaced as it had a hole in it!

I was happy before but REAL happy after reading your plight. I hope you get it sorted out favorably!

95 GPW 993

I bought my '95 993 this past April. While reading the threads on the wiring harness issue and pondering what to do, Porsche sent me the recall notice. Amazing, considering I never sent them a post card telling them I was the new owner! Using the TSB (thanks, E.J.!!), I checked the harness number myself, and mine ended in .05, so I figured I would have to have it replaced.

I went to the local Porsche dealer three weeks ago, who checked the harness and said it would indeed have to be changed out. No loaner from them since I didn't purchase the car there; no big deal. They did say mine was the first one they would be doing, which made me a bit nervous.

That aside, my experience was in line with the other positive replacements folks have been having. Two weeks to get the harness, two days to replace; no cost to me. Got the car back last Fri; no problems noted since.

BTW, the new harness in mine ends in .15. I asked if I could have the old harness to check if the insulation, etc. was going bad, and was told "no" by the dealer since they have to send it back to PCNA.

Got my 96 993 targa back today, wiring harness replaced. Took 1.5 days, they did give me a loaner, Honda Accord, I was hoping for a Boxter. Annotated on the work order was a complementary wash, did not happened, in fact the car was very dirty, grease and some scratches on the rear bumper, don't know how bad, I'll find out when I wash the car. Openned engine lead when I got home to do a quick inspection of the quality of work, did not have a lot of time to look at it cause I have to go back to work, I noticed the airbox was not properly installed, who knows what else I'll find when I do a more thorough inspection. This the very first time I have taken my car to a dealer, I normally do all my maintenance, in this case I did not have any choice because it's a recall. This is a lesson learned for me. First impression of this dealeship, I'm not impressed and I thought this is a very reputable Porsche Dealership. This dealership is located at the North County of San Diego, the only one in the North County. There you have it, an experience to share, other mechanics doing work on my toy. I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow and voice my concern.

Just got the supplemental update from Mike at Fairfield Porsche - thank you Mike.

You can get to the updated page and the file from the main page of my site using the link in my signature.

Note that the cut off date on the harness from the part number sticker is the "DATUM" date and it must be earlier than 05.01.1996 to require a replacement. Note that you do not use the "ZEICH DAT" date. This is the same date for both NA and Turbo cars.

Additionally, they added a part number for the turbo cars. that new part number is: 993.607.016.10

My VIN number appears to be earlier than the range mentioned. I believe I actually have a 94 build. Is anyone else in the same situation and have they gotten a recall notice/been able to get the harness replaced?

What's your VIN number and build date Alex? The build date can be found on the black sticker in the door jamb.

Thanks for the reply. My car actually has a pre 95 build date of 6/94

VIN# is WP0CA2996SS341062. I'm going to take a look at the harness itself to see what the part number is.

I just checked the engine compartment. The part number is 993.607.016.05 with a Datum Date of 5/94.

So the part number is definitely one of the affected though my build-date and VIN# appear to be before the range specified. I'm going to call the dealer and see what they say.

Didn't pay a dime. Done in 36 hrs, got a free loaner (Passat). Dealer (Sonnen in Marin County) super nice, no parts problems, let me reschedule 1-2 times, painless experience.

If you don't trust your dealer, find another one. The posts on the site here have the full procedure as a PDF file...download it and make sure you know what they are doing.

I didn't think about taking it to my mechanic to have checked out...likely will just wait until next oil change and have him take a peek then.

Alex, your car is actually newer than mine, the build date has nothing to do with it. The last 4 numbers of your vin are your cars serial number - yours is 10xx while mine 0644, so my car was actually built 400 cars before yours. You are definitely in the range with both vin and part number. Take it to a dealer.

Alex, I also have a 95 cab with vin# 342346, built in 12/94. The harness was replaced. My old part number ended with 05.
