Kitch,
Just a month ago I purchased a 96 black w/gray interior 37k miles for under 35k. Car had all records, although it had 3 previuos owners. I used a formula of .20 a mile when comparing cars. Some don't consider low mileage that big a deal but it was important to me to be under 40k. I will only drive about 5 or 6k a year so in 4 years it will still only have 60k on the clock.

Mark has a good point about the 95 vs. 96. I got the dreaded CEL my second day of onwership (and about 10 times since) and if I had it to do over I might get a 95. I don't like the basket handle so much either but in my search i saw a good number of later 95 model cars w/o it. I know that the 95's may still have the buildup but that yellow light can be a real buzz kill. Ignorence might be bliss in this case. Good luck.

Jamie,

What a find! Unfortunate about the CEL. It's encouraging to hear that my dream car does exist, to bad it's in your garage.

Moto:

WOW! I've called and left a message with one of those numbers. Thanks so much for the pointer! That is the EXACT car I am looking for. Best of luck in your hunt, I'll be sure to keep my eye out on that C4S for ya. I've definately got my fingers crossed on that car in charlotte!

Awesome - hope it works out for you! NC is pretty bare right now with 993's...finding exactly what you want without traveling a LONG way is tough.

Let us know if you buy it!

If you don't get a 95 with a basket handle, how do you hoist the car to do service work? The handle is the most convenient lifting point with my overhead crane .
I like the fact that the Check Engine Light issue does not occur in the 95 model year. And that as a practical matter it looks just like a $50,000 later model C4S, etc. to everybody but the Porsche Geeks.

Kitch,

FWIW, '95s built after roughly April (maybe some in March?) of '95 do not have the basket handle. My car was built 5/95.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the input everyone!

The Seller in Charlotte can't respond fast enough!

Oh, VIR was great today, beautiful day, just a bit windy and cold. All the turbo owners were thrilled, perfect turbo weather.

Kitch, I purchased my 96 Targa Arena red on line from a dealer in Ft Lauderdale 16k, tip, Targa wheels, supple leather, phone console, painted crests in Aug for 41.5k. Ft Lauderdale collection ask for Dave. We dealt on the phone and they took it to a Porsche dealer 2 times at their expense for minor repairs. Don't get a 95 no offense. Hold out for the right one it's there. Good luck Beto

Good Q Boris.
I believe "The basket handle" is the third brake light that used to sit across the top of the engine lid. Never looked too nice.
Later on, it was moved to the roof at the top of the rear glass. Much nicer and made it look more complete.

A number of 993 targas may also have the basket handle since there was nowhere on the top of the rear glass to place a third brake light.

Anyone please tell me if I'm mistaken.

Boris,

Your basket handle is the TBL hoop just above your retractable spoiler.
