Default Euro Turbo bumper question

Hi,

I will collect my 97, C2 narrow body, artic silver next wednesday. Pics to be published very soon.

Would like to swap from the standard bumper to the Euro Turbo bumper.

I found an original second hand one for only 520$. However the same guy offered me a copy brand new one at the same price.

Which one should I go for ? Both need to be repainted of course so that will make no difference.

Also is it a straight swap or are some adjustments required ?

Tks to all,

Go with the OEM...Im going to guess the copy is fiberglass....couple shots to the bumper the fiberglass has a tendency to crack....The fit and finish of the copy will not be as good as the OEM....Just make sure the condition of the used bumper is good....

Is that so? Man, I'm confused! My front bumper doesn't have license plate holes at all, and I just have no idea what the PO did. Don't have bumper guards either, and so it has Euro-sized turn signal lenses. Any idea?

Kim
Can I ask what you paid to have the bumperettes patched and bumper painted? I've been thinking about replacing my bumper with a euro but patching may be a better alternative.
Thanks

Thanks Kim, and I think you also explained where my brake duct / fog lights came from!

Wsp964, The turbo bumper will fit without modification. There is some minor work on brackets of some sort that hold the wheel well liner in place. Check out the DIY on this topic on P-car.com.

Enjoy,

I have a question about the patching of the bumperette holes: how big are the holes that are left over and do you need to put the Techart brake ducts or something else in there to take up the space. In other words is it a 3/4" round hole or a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangle missing.

I don't have the car in front of me to see but I would like to remove the bumperettes (front and rear although the rears are not as bad on a black car) but I am unsure if you can have "just the holes" filled or is the area underneath the bumperette removed from the bumper cap.

Thanks for letting me make a long story longer!!

They're not really holes but rectangular notches...about 1 1/2" x 1/2" IIRC.

The Euro TT front bumper is a straight swap to a US narrow body (NB) car, except for the front section of the fender liners which are different parts. The lowest front mounting hole for the liner will not match an existing bracket. The result is that at speeds above about 100 mph the lower edge of the liner (w/the rubber gasket) will be blown back past the fender lip. Not dangerous or damaging, just unsightly. The fix is to either order new liners, keep speeds down or fabricate mounts. I cured the problem using braided picture wire, washers & cotter pins. It's been fine for several DE weekends & speeds up to 140 mph. PM/email if you want the details.

Once the holes are patched, the same fogs are used together with the longer Euro clear or amber turn signal lenses. So the only parts needed are the turn signal lenses. Turbo S or Techart ducts replace the fog lights, if that look/function is desired.

Kim
Thanks for the info! The price you paid does sound very low. I have a feeling I'll be paying at least $700.

Thanks again

Dan and David,

Thanks for the replies...for som reason I was thinking the bumperettes were closer to the center of the bumper by the fog light. I got the picture in my head correctly now.

I am going to need a bumper cap repainting at some point here as there are lots of chips and rash. I want to remove the bumperettes at that point.

I will sell my short clear lenses and get the longer ones.

I'm sure that in just a few minutes a line will form to buy them.

I'm interested in your short lenses. One of my orange ones are cracked.
