Consider getting on VRBO and renting a downtown Monterey house, 3-4 bedrooms, and sharing. Rates high as owners/managers suck us dry for these events, but when shared, works out well. We successfully did this for our group last time.

I just made a reservation for a large house (4,500 sq. ft. - 5 bed/4 bath) in western Carmel Valley for RRVI via VRBO.

It came to about $5000 for 4 nights (Sept. 26-30). Splitting that 5 ways, it is about $250/night per party. Great amenities (hot tub, level outdoor paved parking, etc.). Two additional in-law units can be added on for additional $$$.

I'm holding spots for some friends and family, but I am open to sharing with other RLers. PM me if interested.

How are people already getting rooms, I've called numerous hotels and talked with their sales managers , they are telling me the rooms won't open for another month or so. Maybe I'm a terrible sales guy, lacking the gift of gab?? What's the trick?

VRBO and AirBnB are good ways to get rooms lined up if the hotels are blocking the time off while they adjust their rates upward.

use online booking service to do it. However, read all the terms and conditions carefully before you press the "BOOK" button.
