97 targa tip
Hi, from a newbie.Been reading like crazy. You guys are the best. Being the tip is 1 second slower than stick, I want to confirm some thoughts. First mod will be a chip. P car already has turbo exhaust and motor sound. Do either of these two increase hp? How much? She already has factory aero kit, but want to lower to row specs, I assume okay to do.I appreciate any suggestions and thoughts. Thanks fish 993

I personally think that while there are some real hp gains with a chip, they will not be hugely meaningful and that you may want to do that mod when you have done all others. I thought that a few people had done some reprogramming of the tip brain to get more performance oriented shifting, though and perhaps you may want to look into this. Otherwise, I personally think your initialy mod fund would be better spent on suspension or DE.

Motorsound is advertised as providing aural improvement, not HP improvement. Some listers, however, have found the Motorsound lid does provide some benefit to both power and torque, but the results are very close, likely within the range of sampling error. RoW suspension should be fine, but some folks worry that any lowering/stiffening of targa chassis is not a good thing for body integrity: http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=008427#000000
I totally agree with David re the chip and mod priorities. Unless you are an experienced Tiptronic pilot, however, the absolutely most important mod for your car will be driver ed re the Tip.
My best advice as a two-time Tip owner is never drive in auto mode unless you absolutely have to (or, I suppose you could *always* drive in auto mode but accelerate aggressively whenever possible, so at least the Tiptronic control unit would be selecting the #5 "Intense/Sport" shift map). Whatever your preference, spend some time familiarizing yourself with the unique features and preferences of this trans. You will be well rewarded for the effort, as in my experience how a Tip car is driven has a huge impact on one's perception of it.
Welcome and good luck!
