Post Exhaust Flame Thrower Kit

Now, I have seen everything!

Automobile Magazine, Feb 2003 issue, page 103:

"Wheels on fire

Advanced Automobile Technologies can make your car shoot flames twenty feet long, using a spark plug in the exhaust paired with a computer controller. Sadly, the Exhaust Flame Thrower Kit won't melt the bumpers off tailgaters, as the sytem is for show only. $125 single exhaust, $200 dual exhaust. (800-873-4038)"; URL link listed does not work.

Photo shows relay, pc board and red pushbutton switch.

I don't know about you, but I am definitely going to get one, before Chuck Shumer finds out about this!

Yes, I just spotted it and took it out of the post. Google doesn't find it either.

Actually, this weekend they had a special install on the "trucks" tv show on TNN i beleive. It was pretty funny actually. The way it works is that you basically bring it up to about 5,000rpm or so then let off the gas and then push the button. The sytem interrupts the igntion which prevents the fuel from detonating....the two spark plugs(yes you actually weld two spark plugs into your exhaust system) and coils fire the unburnt fuel as it exits the muffler. They put the plugs right next to the exit(3"back) and the results were about a 5 foot flame i would estimate. I don't know how you would shoot 20' flames...but then again I'm not sure why you would want to. Check out the "trucks" show and you'll see for yourself.

Ya know,

This is fine & all, but that system would have to wash the cylinder walls down w/ fuel resulting in a lack of lubrication if used enough no?

I think that is cool (my 930 & my C2T were both flame throwers), and I might even like to have it, but I dunno. I cant see adding the weight! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I think that Porsche is serious sportscar and doesn't need any of these circus-goodies. It throws flames when it is necessary to and does it in natural way. My personal opinion indeed.

The raw fuel through the exhaust system will also do a nice job of trashing the catalytic converters. I managed to collapse those on an brand new SC many moons ago. (Don't ask how)

My $.02: last month, my O2 sensor failed after 2 cylinders had the injectors stuck open due to the failed wiring harness. That portion of the repair bill came out to $900. Yes, it's an outrageous amount for changing an O2 sensor, but it's what the dealer charged me.

<img border="0" alt="[soapbox]" title="" src="graemlins/soapbox.gif" /> Please tell me nobody is taking this seriously. <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />

As DonC says, don't do it on a car with cats. Imagine pressing the button and letting the fuel run into the exhaust system on one of these cars. The fuel would collect in the cat until it was partially filled. Once the fuel had migrated through the muffler and to the spark plug in the tail pipe, the whole thing would ignite, including all of the fuel in the cat. I'm not sure that there would be enough back pressure to have the cat explode but I wouldn't want to find out either!

Oops. I guess I left that part out. Ha haa haa. Yeah, the show that showed the install said that this was specifically for cars without catalytic converters for the reasons mentioned above. They also stated that you should change your oil more frequently because of possible oil contamination. Overall though, I have to agree with what was said before...there isn't much need for these kind of add-ons on a porsche.
