Post Power bleeder problem

Well I decided to bleed my brakes today and I am using my new Motive pump. I followed the DIY instructions from this site. When I pump it up to 20 PSI, it pressurizes the master cylinder. When I loosen the bleeder screws, nothing happens. If I step on the brakes a little, some comes out. What can I try next? What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Does it stay at 20psi? If not you probably have a vent tube that needs to be clamped off (connects to the reservior).

It's a 1996 and it doesn't have a vent hose. It just sits there at 20 PSI. I have bled a lot of brakes the old way and I know this is the correct way but I can't make it work.

Is the problem at more than 1 screw? More than 1 caliper? Assuming you've got that much pressure (I only need to use 15#) into the MC & it's being held by the MC, there must be a blockage somewhere. Perhaps you are not opening the bleed screws enough. I find I need to unscrew them more than I have in other cars. That's the only thing I can suggest.

Here's one thought -- I think I remember seeing in the service manual the step of slightly depressing the brake pedal (and securing it in that position) before disconnecting the brake line at the calipers. The idea is that this would prevent all the fluid from the reservoir draining out the open brake line.

Any chance your brake pedal isn't releasing all the way up?

(If anybody's confused about what I'm talking about, try replacing 'brake' with 'break', above <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> )

Try a minimum of a half of a turn. Dan indicated he had to open the 993 caliper screws a bit more than normal; I haven't noticed that problem but I definitely crack them over a quarter of a turn; the screw should be loose to the fingers.

Thank you all. I did get it to work. I don't know why the preasure would not go through. The valves were not pluged and the fluid was not that bad. Thanks for your help. Now I get to do the clutch! The good news is, I have the long apelike arms someone said was necessary.
