Default Oil change necessary for winterizing?

Before y'all go Duh, of course, I will tell you that I've only put 600 easy miles on the car since having the oil changed in August. So, the Q is, should I change the oil before putting the car away for the winter or not? If I should, can I get away with leaving the existing oil filters in place? Seems like such a waste to change the oil so soon but obviously, if there is potential for damaging the vehicle, I will do just that.

I usually change the oil AFTER taking the car out of storage in the Spring. Given that I put about 3,000 - 4,000 miles per year on it, that sounds like a good interval.

FWIW,....My advice is always to change the oil before you store it for the winter.

I start the engine with the fresh clean oil and run it for a minute. This leaves a fresh coat of clean uncontaminated oil all over the bearings, cams, rockers and other parts that are subject to corrosion.

All in all, oil is cheap protection.
