Default Looking for guidance on this 1997 993 Coupe

https://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/d/porsche-carrera-coupe/6224491189.html

I've already put my deposit down and will be flying to Denver on Tuesday to go pick it up.

Right off the bat I know the car has its flaws, but I'm looking for a car to drive, not invest in. I used to have a 2011 Spyder and have wanted to get back into a light, fun p car ever since I sold it!

Admittedly, part of the reason I'm buying it is because Alex, who owns the dealership, is such a car lover and so passionate about this car that it made me love it even more. Also, I know I would want to put money into a stock version, but this one has almost everything I would want done to it, do that is a huge plus for me.

Flaws
Engine rebuilt under warranty at 25K miles
repainted due to chips from the track
Not a big fan of the bilstein 11's and will want to raise to 10's.

benefits
just read through the post, you will see all of them.

so, what am I looking for an opinion on?

First, i will be driving this home from Denver to San Francisco, any roads I have to hit?

Second, this car seems in perfect condition, anything I need to know before heading on a 1300 mile journey?

Third, just overall, given that I want to get back into autocross, is there anything else you guys would recommend I do to it?

finally, just overall opinions?!? I'm really excited to get back into a p car since I sold my 2011 Spyder 2 years ago.

Congrats, that drive home will be a blast. I would want the spare tire donut and air compressor for a 1300 mile drive.

It looks like it's pretty much track ready, down to the battery cutoff. Maybe a strut brace, seats/roll bar?

Different experience than the spyder, both are awesome in their own ways. Enjoy!

Beautiful car. I really like the color, year, Techart touches, wheels and that Mooney!

I would look at the brake pads, oil level and tires before the trip.

That seller has been putting a bunch few cars up for auction on Bring a Trailer in the past couple of months.

Looks like a very nice car for your intended use. Not sure why the PSS11 are a "flaw". This is a nice suspension for an autocross / street car.

That's a great car for a very reasonable price.

Thanks guys for the feedback! In terms of the seller, Alex has been awesome. A true car enthusiast who only sells cars he's passionate about. I have a string of emails from him answering questions about the car, each one as detailed and expressive as his write-up.

In terms of the PSS11's, they aren't a flaw, just not ideal for me. Bay Area roads aren't the best, and the PSS10's will serve an equally beneficial purpose for me with a little bit more clearance and give for the roads.

Tuesday needs to hurry up and get here! Will post lots of pics.

Roads...how many days do you have? You can go north though Estes Park, over Trail Ridge, highest road in the US. The head back south though Leadville and go over Independence Pass onto Aspen. Or go on I70 to Leadville then over Independence Pass. Lots of options.

Leaving Colorado I70 has some interesting parts in eastern Utah, but it's still an interstate.

I usually try to avoid western Utah, Nevada on I80 although it's the fastest route to SF.

Or you can meander down through southern Colorado though Durango, then though southern Utah (Boulder/Escalante/Bryce).

Or go though Northern New Mexico.

Perfect condition...it sounds like you are not doing a PPI. If it was me I would not embark on a drive to SF without having someone go through the car, including wear items (tires/belts/etc.)

Storz is okay although the focus is a bit more on earlier 356's/911's. Cervilli himself is great, although he is semi retired and I doubt would go through the car. Another Chris, at Simple Auto in Boulder is great and does the work on my 993. If you need some help finding someone let me know.

Autocross...there are a number of threads on this. nile13 has been auto crossing a 993 for a long time, search threads. If you going through PCA events that have rules, you need to make a decision on what class you want to run in and how much money you want to spend.

I will be in town, PM if you want to discuss more or need help.

Congrats, it sounds like its going to a good home!

This is my car by the way, I'll be sorry to see it go but hopefully will replace it with a 993tt in the near future...
Alex is a good friend of mine and a fellow BMW CCA Instructor and was kind enough to offer to handle the sale for me as I've been traveling for much of the summer.

For the drive home, the brakes pads are brand new oem stock pads, fluid is motul 660 and has half a track day on it and re: belts,
I'm pretty sure I gave Alex the box of parts I had for a "Complete Annual Maintenance":

993-107-203-03-M67 Oil Filter (small)
900-123-118-30-M131 Aluminum Washer
999-192-363-50-M21 A/C Belt
993-207-201-02-M67 Oil Filter (large)
999-701-269-40-M213 O-Ring
999-192-338-50-M100 Alternator Belt
999-192-343-50-M100 Alternator Belt
928-110-253-06 Fuel Filter
993-572-479-00 Cabin Air Filter

I think he's checking on an OEM DME Relay for you as well. I'm not sure if it has the old part # or not.

@Hansel nice to virtually meet you! The power of the internet :-) You're right, Alex is awesome, and is the main reason I feel so comfortable about this car. Anyone that is so open about the car's 'flaws' means they feel extremely comfortable with the car's strengths.

In terms of a good home, I'm a huge porsche enthusiast, though with owning a business and two sub-4 year olds priorities don't allow me to dedicate the time I would to this passion. I plan on doing at least 4-5 auto cross / track events a year, so I will still be excercising your 993 as you've built her to do.

I still talk to the guy that bought my Spyder, and I'm available at any time if you want to check in on your baby.

I vote for Independence Pass through Leadville to Aspen....then you can head West to Grand Juction then up to Utah and catch Route 80 from Salt Lake to CA (that part is boring)

Congrats!

suggest you head over to Boulder and hit up some of the local breweries, Avery, Boulder Beer, Mountain Sun. Get the bison burger at Mountain Sun, it's one of the best burgers I've had. They only take cash, no credit cards.

Enjoy your trip!
