Oil pressure light & ticking sound

Hello experts,

I have recently purchased a 993 and stupidly, I decided to get an oil change at just any service center.

Oil was drained, then 11 liters of 15-W50 (Liqui Moly) were added along with 2 cans of 'Ceratec' (Liqui Moly) and 2 genuine oil filters.

'Ceratec' is a liquid used for wear protection for engines, transmissions, pumps and compressors

Immediately after starting the car, the oil pressure light went on, and would only disappear after engine is revved above 2 RPM. it would come back at idle. I went for a 7 km ride, and straight to 'Porsche service center' .... oh, and engine was making a ticking sound ever since.

Service manager, advised that the 'Ceratec' has significantly reduced the viscosity of the oil, resulting the oil pressure light to come on. Also, the oil filters seemed to be very dirty.

I am freaking out right now, and scared the engine will need an overhaul.

Appreciate your help Pleaaaase.

thank you
Mutasem

I'm always sceptical when people start mixing and matching their own oil blend.. there is a real science to getting it right...

Apart from any better advice, I would want to get all that crap out of my motor asap. For now just use plain ole mobile one 15-50 it's a known entity... See if the ticking problem goes away and pray that the cams aren't scored...
Drive the car for a couple thousand miles and have an oil analysis done to check for metal.

Best of luck

Did they drain old oil out the pressure relief valve by mistake?

this has been discussed here before

If so you'll need to replace the spring & ball bearing that was flushed away

Isn't that too much oil??

IainM 07-19-2017 06:28 PM

I'm sure they only put in 8qts but they probably billed for 11 litres.

#2 reason why you never take your 993 to just any service station.

Hello,

Thank you for your help. All messages are being shared with the mechanic :-)

I believe the oil was drained from 3 different parts of the car. Two of which had a spring.

Another explanation I obtained, was that since the car has been dormant for 4-5 months, the additive has done its job and cleaned the system, and all the residue remained in the tray. Therefore, the residue along with the new oil, has been circulated back into the system and blocking the lifters. Also, I was advised to clear the tray and check the oil pump.

logical??

Thanks
Mutasem

I don't think the oil & additive has anything to do with it low oil pressure will cause old lifters to click - as simple as that

3 drains & 2 springs??? DOH!!!
Was the 3rd the transmission?

IainM 07-19-2017 06:52 PM

What I mean is
do you have any oil in your transmission?

IainM 07-19-2017 06:55 PM

Please don't drive this car hard til you fix this

IainM 07-19-2017 06:58 PM

Sorry to go on like this but what I'd do is change both the engine and transmission oils properly just to be sure

ill shut up now🙂

Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

The air cooled cars in town are only a few, that's why expertise is limited, and I seek your help.

The first thing I will do tomorrow is request for a check up on transmission oil, and to check the oil pressure relief valve.

Thanks
Mutasem

And the oil thermostat valve

mutasemb 07-19-2017 07:18 PM

Will do. is it something that I should be worried about? i only drove the car for 10km after the warning light appeared.
