Right. My T is a 26, froze May 5 and expected delivery early August. That's late to still be this model year, compared to prior years.

The online configurator hasn't changed over yet, either.

The upshot is that the car will decide whether or not you are allowed to drive, and will provide a remote "kill switch" function that allows remote operation inhibit.

US law allows the owner to remove or disable this function, but not the manufacturer, dealer, nor independent service shop. With Porsche's remote-control coding license requirement, it would seem impossible for their system to allow an owner to remove it. Maybe another lawsuit inbound...?

I had the same question. Had a choice of allocations for either a '26 or wait for the first '27 S allocation delivered this fall. I originally wanted an aerokit so was basically hoping the '27 allocation that would be available; although no guarantees. That plus maybe some new colors would be available for the '27's. Ultimately decided on the '26 being delivered in August as I decided against the aerokit. Why pay more (there is going to be a price increase) for the same car?

I don't think you can legally remove it from any vehicle. But we are all speculating on something that hasn't happened....yet.

I'm a bit confused by "DAD". Is it mandated to look for drowsiness and inattention or are you referring to the impaired driving initiative? I'm not sure which function the addition to the top of the steering column is doing.

I was looking at a Subaru for my teen kids and it has a feature that warns when the driver looks way from the road ahead or instrument panel for too long. It is a bit over zealous though and I think it would get turned off a lot.

I don't mind the impaired driving lockout system provided it works correctly. An acquaintance of mine was T boned by a drunk driver some years ago. He was actually a suspended driver at the time. No one wants intrusive technology, but sometimes I wonder .....

Drunk drivers ruin lives so I would not mind that feature either.

I don't know why, but when I look at cars, I do look at mileage, but if there are two cars similarly equipped and the mileage isn't that much different, I prefer the most current model year. Call me crazy.

The first time a woman is unable to get away from a rapist because her car shuts down, I don't think that the jury will be kind to the manufacturer.

I'm sure the woman's complaint will be against the legislators, not the manufacturer unless the tech was faulty. But if she was drunk and trying to escape a rapist by driving impaired ...

Because we're all fully immersed in a society of outrage, everyone here is now going bonkers on the driver alertness warning systems. But it's been in some BMWs for at least eight years. I've had it in several cars including one of my current cars. I'm not even sure whether I have it turned on or off. I think I've seen an alert come on a couple of times, and I actually think I was drowsy in those instances. It's just not something to freak out about, but freak out, we will.

I think that like Lane Keep Assist, the driver alertness thing is about to become mandatory in Europe. That's why we're seeing Porsche preparing to install it on all its cars. For NA, it will be totally defeatable at best, and a non-issue at worst.
