Default Windshield availability

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share an experience I’ve been dealing with and see if anyone else has run into something similar.

First off, I absolutely love the car 992.2 T and had a great experience with the dealer purchase out of state.

That said, about a week ago I was driving home and a small rock hit the windshield… and it immediately shattered. Pretty surprising given how minor the impact was.

I reached out to my local dealer to get it replaced. The lightweight glass option came in around $6k installed, so I asked about switching to a standard (non-lightweight) windshield. After checking with Porsche, they told me that neither option is currently in stock anywhere in the U.S., and it would take a few weeks.

I followed up yesterday now a few weeks and now I’m being told it’s backordered, with no real timeline. I also didn’t get any proactive updates from the dealer.

I have to admit, I find it hard to believe that Porsche North America doesn’t have any windshields available for a 2026 model.

safelight said no go also…

Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice or alternate paths I should be exploring?

Appreciate any insight.

I had to replace a windshield on my 2025 T a few months ago (huge crack which formed after a minor hit). Took more than 2 months to get new OEM glass. They said the 992.2 has different antennae integrated into the glass, so they cannot use the 992.1 glass.

I had to pay a $250 glass deductible but insurance covered the rest (>$5K)

I am in Los Angeles. I was driving my 2024 992.1 T in May of 2025 and the rear view mirror assembly suddenly detached from the inside of the windshield so it was hanging there by the wiring. No problem, I thought. A little glue at the dealership and I would be good to go. Nope! I took it to my dealership (Woodland Hills Porsche) and they told me that I would need a new windshield. Apparently, once the assembly comes loose, the windshield is considered a total loss. I was still under warranty and they happened to have a replacement windshield in stock. They put it in (a 2 day process) and returned the car to me. I think I know why they had the windshield in stock; it had a very visible wave about two thirds of the way down from the mirror assembly, so it was probably replaced out of another car. They agreed to replace it, but told me that they would have to order a new windshield and it would take a while as they did not have another one in stock. They did not tell me how long it would take to get another one. About three weeks later I traded in the 992.1 T for a 992.1 S with a 7MT, which is what I had wanted all along.

Your T also fell under the defective glass recall. What a **** show! That was one if the reasons I traded my ‘24 T as well.

Strongly recommend putting an Exoshield film on your windshield once it's replaced.

It will do a great job of reducing the risk of this happening again.

I did the 60% coverage Expel PPF at the dealer when I ordered my 911. I contemplated doing the windshield but I thought I might notice it too much and bother me. I finally pulled the $500 trigger at a local PPF installer. As I was leaving the PPF place and getting on the highway a 1/2" round rock slammed into the lower passenger side of my windshield. I got out and looked at it and a little circle of PPF was missing. I looked at it with a jewelers loupe and it did not damage the windshield one bit. What a sigh of relief. When they first did the PPF I noticed some waviness in my view but as the sun came out for a couple of days it mostly went away. I don't think about it at all. When I see that tiny piece of PPF missing, which no one has ever even noticed, it makes me smile.

My 992 came with the lightweight glass option. Porsche paid to replace the windshield once. The second time (stone impact) I went to Safelite. The first go around with Safelite they installed the wrong windshield. But the "parts book" the local Safelite shop was using was and may still be, wrong.
Long story short, have Safelite install this windshield part number and all will be good.
FWIW, if you schedule your Safelite windshield replacement on-line, but do not actually complete the purchase, in a few days, Safelite will send you a follow-up email and they'll knock about $50-$100 off the price.
"FW05865 GYY"
It's not the "Lightweight" glass, but it is several (as in many, many) thousand dollars less and it's visually indistinguishable from the OEM Lightweight glass.
