Default Winter Tires

Incoming 992.2 2GTS that I plan to daily in harsh mid-western weather, center lock wheels.
What do you recommend for winter tires?

Have Michelin Pilot Alpin 5's on my current non-P 2wd car that I have been very happy with.
Was leaning towards the same. Thoughts?
Did a forum search and the Alpins came up a decent amount, although availability seemed to be a concern.

I think any good snow tires will help, but did you consider an awd model?

The available allocation was for a 2wd and I went for it. My current car is a 2wd and it has been completely fine with snow tires.

That's what I have on my 992.2 C2S and they are working well for me. With the low ground clearance, I'm not out driving in blizzards, but have confidence in the car otherwise.

I have Alpins and they've been good, although a little loud in dry conditions.

There is a set of Goodyears for sale in the classifieds.

A couple other threads have suggested Pirellis as quieter. I'll probably try those when my Alpins age out.

I have the Alpins 5's as well here in New England and very happy with them. Not sure what brands offer N spec winter tires but I would make sure that you at least get and N spec set.

Have Pirelli P Zero Winter 2 on my car in a 19/20 configuration. They work well and are reasonably quiet. They have a Porsche NA2 rating.

I just got new Alpin 5s for my 2024 C4S and am very happy with them. I had Continental WinterContact something or others on my previous 992 C2S for winter and while those were good, the difference of fresh new Alpins + AWD makes this thing unstoppable in the snow. At least with the ~6” snowfalls we have had so far this season. Tomorrow’s 21-26” is going to be something a bit different

The OEM Porsche Winter Tire and Wheel CENTERLOCK sets for the 992.2 GTS include two tire choices:
— Michelin Pilot Alpin 5
– Goodyear Ultragrip Performance Gen-1

I ordered a Winter tire/whel set from Suncoast that came with Alpin 5s (did not have a choice). I later learned the Goodyear ultragrips were a possibility.

Note the winter sets use a smaller rear tire size: 305 (winter) vs 315 (summer)

Yeah, need to be mindful about widths. I know Michelin offers Alpin 5's in the same sizes as the summers, as well as one click narrower in the rears. So in theory, one could purchase the Porsche factory winters with the 1/2" narrower rear. Or, it's also possible to buy the summer tire size and then swap tires on the same rims.

There has been a lot of discussion about why Porsche reduced the width of the winters in the rears... my opinion is still that the narrower rears are only for snow chain clearance to the fenders, note the manual only lists chains permitted on the rear. It doesn't make sense to me that the narrower width is to "slice" through the snow... one would think that Porsche would make all the tires narrower if this was the case.

Happy drifting

There’s no ‘discussion’ needed, it’s settled convention. The ‘minus one’ or ‘minus two’ winter wheel and tire fitment is accepted practice, though real world test reveal small differences. Google is your friend.

Depends on wheel size. If the car has 5-lugs and standard breaks the 19/20 set is an option, which is what i have. last time i shopped (september 2025) my options were continental winter contact TS 860 S and Pirelle P Zero Winter 2.

I am running these on my 992.2 GTS on oem centerlock and I have been very pleased with them.

Excellent grip in the snow and no issues at all with the cold.

+1 on those tires as they are amazing. Had them on a previous car and they performed very well.
