Maybe the install is fast, but programming them is slow. Although you'd think GT3 something would have a fast processor for programming. Sorry. I'm no help here. Not that I'd be one to try it on my own, but I assume there are youtube videos that show them being done a bunch faster?
What programming? You take off original sides and replace with GT3 sides.
it will take 30 minutes to get the car on and off the lift and do the paperwork. One hour is pretty much the cost of entry into a dealer service dept. Two hours seems about right for this one.
Everyone seems to think 30 minutes in their home is 30 minutes in the shop. Also lets be real, from true start to finish this is an easy hour. From unboxing, getting tools out, and cleaning up.
Suncoast charged me $200 to install them during my 2yr service. I purchased them from their parts department and they held them for a few weeks till my service and then had a shop guy drop off my original sideskirts to my house for free because they didnt think the box would fit in my 911.
Welcome to the world of Porsche service! I am in Chicago as well, so know most of the dealers here. While Westmont is far from my favorite dealer, this isnt out of the ordinary.
First, this quote isnt crazy for a dealer. Its a dealer. This is the most expensive place to service your car, but also the one you have the most recourse with if you are not happy. It takes time to get your car in and get it lifted. Open the parts you brought, inspect them and be sure its all there and then do the work, pull the car down and get the paperwork done and you communicated with. There is no seperate line item for AJs time either. The back and forth and dealing with you, you ultimately pay for that time. Lastly, they dont work on your car with a Le Mans style pit stop approach. They typically go slow and methodical. Is the # of hours longer that actual number of minutes to install the part? Yes. The quote is representative of what they want to make to install these customer supplied parts. They aren't victimizing you by giving you their price.
Second, SAs are not mechanics nor techs and they just parrot what they are told or are used to saying. Don't hold it against the guy. All he knows is that Porsche service = programming. Because for most services there is something that happens in Piwis or in the record keeping around the car.... "programming".
Third, if you dont know, buying parts from somewhere else, when the shop you want to install could have sold them to you, almost always means a higher price for the install. See the low costs for the install at Suncoast when they supplied the parts (and they are not known as a cheap dealer). You took away an opportunity for them to sell you the part. Some indys are explicit and charge a higher hourly or add charges for customer supplied shops.
Lastly, your dealer doesnt care nearly as much as you think they do, these are side skirts on a C2. If you dont like the price just go somewhere else, lots of options. AJ is going to happily sell you your next car. No one cares where you get these installed.
Ask yourself why you dont install these yourself. Whatever that answer is, is your rationale to pay for the service. Put a value on that and I am sure you are going to find someone who will do it for a price you like.
I'm not one to defend a stealership but it could be that programming is to add the option to the car for warranty coverage or any other excuse. You may not necessarily will be able to get out of it. They may also come with the argument that's necessary for the wing deployment as the aero is changed (hard to believe that would be applicable in most cases).
It's not a difficult install. If you're not prone to DIY, there's plenty of shops in the area. Mark at carsplus is a PCA racer, very capable with porsches (gocarsplus.com). He's not far from Napleton.
Unfortunately Porsche's October pricing update was a pretty significant one and included these side skirts. I just added a little extra discount on them - we'll run them at $335 ea as long as interest holds and Porsche doesn't further increase the price.

Porsche Marin wanted to charge me $350 for installing side marker lights on my Macan while in for service. "It's one book hour of labor". BS.
Took me five minutes a side. Not playing that game.
I've seen side skirt videos that make it look easy:
