Default Help! New 992.2 Targa

Hello. Long-time-lurker and first-time poster here. I apologize in advance - the topics I have questions about have been covered in various threads, but I have found it impossible to get straight answers from both folks I have talked to and the reading I have done here, on Reddit, etc.

The scoop:

I have a 2014 911 C4S Cabriolet. It is my third Porsche. I am looking to trade it in and get into a new 992.2 Targa. I would prefer the 4S (just announced), but would also happily take the 4 GTS.

Before I start calling dealers to shoot my shot, I want to be as educated as possible to give myself the best chance for success!

Here are my questions:

1.) One of my requirements is PTS. I want to build my “dream” 911, and am happy to wait for a PTS slot to get the color I have been wanting for 15+ years (Meissen Blue). What specifically would the process be to obtain a PTS allocation? Lots of various opinions out there about allocations for a PTS car, but I have yet to find a definitive answer. I know this sounds spoiled, but in this particular case, I am not willing to “accept” an allocation unless I can get PTS. And I am happy to wait for this guarantee, but it is unclear to me what to do? I’m genuinely confused.

2.) Since I am happy to wait, but put a deposit down, etc., does anyone have an opinion on the best way to approach a dealer with this request? Should I configure 2 builds (4S and 4GTS) and bring them the codes for both? Should I just stick with my most-desired build? Since the 4S was just announced, does that make an allocation any easier or harder? Does it make my PTS requirement any easier or harder?

3.) I live in NY. Have read lots of different threads about people going to NJ dealers, calling around to “smaller” markets/dealers, etc. Since I am happy to wait to get a PTS allocation, is there a particular dealer “type” or a specific dealer who is more likely to take my trade and figure out how to get me the allocation that I want without playing all the usual dealer games?

4.) Brokers. I do not mind paying a good broker for their hard work. But it seems unclear that they can “guarantee” an allocation like I have outlined above. Any experience here with working with a good broker and what that process looks like with a PTS allocation?

I appreciate that I need to go do legwork myself, call dealers, etc., I just want to try arm myself with some more complete information before I do!

I deeply appreciate any words of wisdom from the group on my questions above. Thanks very much in advance…

The best chance for success is to offer a lot of money over the cost of the car.

Most people claim PTS is an option you submit with your build and hope for the best, meaning PTS was not part of the allocation. However, there have been at least two posters here who claimed they were offered a PTS allocation up front, meaning PTS was guaranteed as part of the allocation which the dealer could offer a customer.

The reality is the manufacturing plant has a limited capacity to provide PTS.

I don’t think it will make any difference whether you are building a Targa 4S or GTS. I’m sure it would be helpful to have a final build of each car ready to go.

You really just need to contact multiple dealerships and ask if they can guarantee a PTS allocation. Otherwise you probably won’t get PTS.

Supposedly, PTS decisions are approved by PCNA Regional Managers, so each region might have a different method for PTS approval.

I would also suggest contacting some Porsche brokers and see if they can obtain a PTS allocation for you.

Good luck.

Hopefully you have a relationship with a dealership that you have bought from.. and let them know you have a trade (even though it is old).
If you're not in California you should have a good chance getting an allocation.. and now is the time for a PTS for the Targa 4S... because it just got introduced and it is the beginning of the next year when 911 PTS slots should re-open. Dealerships should be seeing visibility for allocations for the just announced S any day. so find your SA/put in a DEMAND order and get going..
Avoid sounding desperate like you're gonna be willing to put ADM and such.. push hard for MSRP .. and sometimes. maybe a PPF or maintenance that you at least get your money back.. or offering to finance PFS then pay it off in a few months..

Give Kyle Roche a call at Beechwood Porsche in Cleveland Ohio. Tell him I referred you. Several of us have bought our 911s out of market from them and a few of us got PTS (no ADMs)

I couldn’t get anywhere after dozens of Porsche 911 in my local market. I got my last 3 allocations from Kyle. The last two were targas and my current 2024 targa is PTS. Also no ADM. worth calling some mid markets, be willing to put a deposit and have your build code already built and ready to send.

PTS is still hard to get but a standard allocation is not as difficult as it was. Targas are the most difficult (outside of GT cars to get) so you have to put several feelers out.

Having a trade in also helps a bit as well.

Just be ready with a deposit and build code. They will know you are ready to pull the trigger.

Hi,
Like the original poster on this thread, first day on the forum. Have not owned a Porsche before, although quite a few other German brands. I am in the market for one though, and the pending to be released 992.2 Turbo S Convertible is the one of interest to me. However, it is nearly impossible to get the local dealer to even show the interest to return my calls (Portland, OR). Some of the dealers in the other states are showing interest to service me, but the discussion always starts with a hefty ADM. Don't get me wrong, I am already content with the MSRP of the vehicle, and for additional value, no issues paying more. But I am not sure ADM with no concrete return on investment (not that they are offering to expedite the order or anything) is not something I am able to come to terms with.

Like the original poster, I am interested in a custom order (which I already have a template on based on the 992.1 version), with a lot of customizations. I am looking to hear about the opinions and experiences of the fellow members of the forum on dealers or brokers in different states. Preferably where I can avoid ADM, even if that means I have to finance through them or PFS, or get ceramic coating or something through them.

Any opinions?

Honestly, I think youll have a hard time getting an allocation. Targas are the least produced model and the demand is very high. The dealer will most certainly want an ADM above MSRP even with your car as a trade. Good luck on your hunt.

Unless you have a relatively new 911 to trade in you will pay an ADM

I second this...especially, a PTS Targa allocation. You want the rarest of the rare outside of a GT car. But it doesn't hurt to call/email around to the smaller markets. Maybe people are holding on to their purse strings and avoiding luxury buys until there's more clarity with the macro economy and you may get lucky.

Thank you for the quick response. Do you have any guidance what I should expect the ADM to be for my situation?

It took a long time to get my allocation for
  • Targa 4S with 7MT
  • Meissen blue
  • Heritage interior
  • European Delivery
  • No ADM

...but it was all totally worth it.

Good luck with the hunt.
(Message me if you need Meissenblau Targa pictures to tide you over)

I also ordered my PTS Carrera T from Beechwood.

there is some truth to both. dealers get a bunch of their allocations for the year before the year starts so for 2025, those are the allocations that some people often refer to as "guaranteeing PTS or Euro Delivery" . these are the ones where you have a while to configure the car and often have longer wait times as they can be scheduled further out.

now the next type of allocation dealers get as a lottery system, it will pop up in their internal system and these are the ones they receive all throughout the year and they don't necessarily know when an allocation will pop up and for what car . these often have much tighter build timelines assigned to them. for example once you get one of these you may only have a week or 2 before freeze date to submit your build, and maybe a month before production. these are the ones that you often see people posting later in the year and most of the time you can not get euro delivery or PTS with these because the PTS que is already filled for the year and euro deliveries have been all assigned already. you can always put your build in with PTS option selected, but they may come back and tell you to remove it.

when i ordered a new RS6 i had Audi exclusive paint selected and got a "late" January build allocation for it and the Exclusive paint allocations were filled up for the year so i switched to a standard color.

You haven't bought a new Porsche since 2014 and you want a Targa AND a Paint to Sample on new build?

HA...HA! I want a date with Charlize Theron, too. We both stand about an equal chance.
