Default Talk me off a ledge or don’t..

My 992.2 4gts has a very small defect in the driver door glass edge. Selling dealer and local have not been overly helpful in a clear path on replacement. I had to call to PCNA and start a case to get it authorized as a missed pdi. I had an appointment yesterday to have it replaced and at my appointment was told the wrong glass arrived. Will try again Monday.

I’m super ocd about the car and feel like it’s a fairly complex install to align and install without damaging the door in the process. I’m strongly considering requesting a buy back at this point as much as I love the car, I can’t stomach a botched repair on such an expensive car. Or is the sensible approach to let it be fixed and if unsatisfactory then go down the buy back road?

They weren't mean spirited, they were realistic. Mean spirited would have been "Stop acting like a little p****y, man up and get it fixed. You are nucking futz if you think anyone in their right mind would even entertain your request for a buy-back. Just more proof that we nuzzle our children way too much. If only you every experienced any real hardship, you would understand how f^cking stupid you sound." Now, that would response be mean-spirited and that's why I would never post that response.

Pics? Door glass is fairly easy to replace in most cars, much more so on cars with frameless doors. In most of the cars I worked on, the window is held by two bolts to the power window mechanism. You take out the two bolts, windows pulls right out.

This is such a trivial repair that I wouldn’t sweat this at all. More of the car comes apart during annual maintenance than will be necessary to replace this glass.

You would have extreme difficulty getting a buyback for one defective car window. According to my understanding of lemon laws, you have to allow the manufacturer multiple attempts over a reasonable period of time to rectify the problem.

Dude, it's just a window. It's also just a Carrera. Even if it was a CGT, the answer would be the same, because they're all just cars meant to be used.
I'd also go back to the dealer and say "you sold me a defective product. Fix it." I don't know why you're having to do their work calling PCNA.

You are kidding, right? If you take a rock to the windshield, are you going to replace the windshield or trade the car in?

Can't wait for the third thread concerning the color of the loaner car.

I definitely understand your uneasiness in having the car worked on by the dealer. In my first visit for first year service, my car was returned with a paint chip, scratches, spilled oil, and damaged plastics around the engine cover all on one visit. All from caused by the Porsche trained technicians at a Porsche dealer. I'd rather get a root canal than take my car to the dealer.

Not throwing sh*t at you. Are you serious about a buyback for etched glass?

Door window repairs are super simple, lots of third party shops do this. Lots of people even DIY it. I had a rock chip in my windshield on my 3rd drive before I hit 100 miles. That's much more invasive...

Just push them to replace and it'll all be totally fine

Insane. It’s a car… what are you going to do when (not if) you get a rock chip or a door ding, or when something actually needs a repair and they need to remove a door panel or drop a motor? SMH. 🤦‍♂️

buying the window and changing it yourself seems more reasonable (to me) than ditching the whole car.

Get the car super clean (tell them not to wash it), take lots of before pics (especially of the door / door card / driver seat / anything you can think of that a tech might interact with). Go over the entire car with the SA on drop off, ask them to identify any damage they can perceive and document it. Then do a very thorough inspection on pick up.
