Default Base caliper question

Does anyone have any guesses as to what this square protrusion is for? Reason I ask is I'm going to pull the calipers and have repainted red. I don't see why I can't cut this square thing off for better aesthetics.

Brake wear sensor wire is kept in place there. The dip in the pad in front of it is where the sensor goes.

Yep. I wonder if the earlier 992s had the sensor attached to the front pad and the wire came out the front and back through that hole. Later models like mine (2024) must use the back pad and the sensor wire now goes out the back. Once I tear into it here in a few days I'll have a better understanding how the wire is routed. I'm guessing I don't really need that lug anymore.

My MY20 car has sensors on both pads.

And it's simple to eliminate the sensors and short the wires so no dash light. 99% of people who track with any regularity do. It's easy enough to see the pads directly.

Upgrade to S or GTS brakes. Fills in the wheels and has better feel!

I did it. I cut off the sensing wire lug and painted the calipers. Turned out great if you ask me.
