I should’ve clarified I have a convertible, a Cab. That seems to complicate any notion of a rear camera unless there’s one with front and rear lenses all in one unit. Any experience with that?
+1 on that. I can't think of an aesthetically yet functioning solution to accommodate for both top down/up scenarios.
Unless you go with something like the Vantrue N5 to cover both.
I installed BlackV7e dr970x with a power magic pro I had lying around from my last car. This new camera doesn’t need it but it’s extra insurance to stop excessive battery drain. I used the passenger fuse box to hardwire. It’s a pretty straightforward job that took about 2hrs tops.
You can break out the power wire from the fitcamx supplied adapter harness and run it directly to the red rain sensor wire shown in the first diagram below, if you want the camera to stay on always and not power off when you turn off the key and lock the car.
The KL30/Terminal 30 wire is fused off of Fuse 6 at 5A which is several times the combined consumption of the camera and rain sensor. Wire gauge itself is also rated well above the 5A fuse.
The fitcamx breakout harness in as-delivered condition pulls KL15/Terminal 15 (power on by key) that feeds the interior mirror, white wire shown in 2nd diagram below.
It goes through Fuse 7 at 7.5A with a wire gauge rated well above the 7.5A fuse.
As with everything discussed on Rennlist, modify at own risk.
I am in the process to get one of these but still a little confused with your description. The Mode A type of that camera for 992's says it connects to the rain sensor already w/o modifications? But they also say you need the wiring harness (Acc and Bat+) to the fuse box to make it come on when parked?
Just installed the Fitcam a few nights ago and other than being a bit tough to install because of my large gorilla hands it was slick and it works excellent.

I see you have a 23 .1 Model too. I just bought one for me too and ordered the Fuse bx harness kit to enable parking mode. They now contacted me and told me I don't need that harness and its already setup to connect to the rain sensor, which makes it work in parking mode. Is that your experience - I gte conflicting answers and like to do the install only once.

This doesn’t make sense. The rain sensor doesn’t receive power when the car is turned off.

Update to this; Red wire may not be a Hot at all times despite the labeling in the diagram. After the car is locked, after some time the car can eventually kill power to this red wire and other things like 12V plug. Measure on your own to be sure.

A bit irritating - I wanted to install only once with parking mode and ordered the extra harness…just to cancel it after fitcamx insisted multiple times I don’t need it (and their shipping times are pretty long to order again).
SO, are we confirmed that the extra harness isn't needed to enable parking? Anyone test the rain sensor harness to see if there is any unswitched 12V there?
