I know I will get blasted for this, but I would never tint my front windshield. Folks say it doesn't affect them but it absolutely diminished night time visibility. Maybe if I we still 21 with amazing eyes. but even then I don't see the justification when you can get similar UV protection without the tint.
Yeah you went too dark. You can go 70+% it does not affect visibility at all and protects your dash, and helps you when driving into the sun and other glare. My mom who is blind in one eye and struggles at night and it had zero negative affects on her.
Anyone not tinting their windshield is just foolish IMO.

You can go as light as 80% light allowance on tint which is barely noticeable in day or night and still achieve 99% UV and 42% heat rejection which is significant.

You can also accomplish basically the same thing with 3M Crystalline without any tint.
Thanks - I am between St. Augustine and Jacksonville.
Did you ever get it done? I can recommend a great shop south of St. Aug, in Bunnell, who has been tinting my vehicles (and homes) for almost 20 years. One owner shop who does all the work himself: Darryn of "A Filtered Sun".
I've only recently started to tint the front windshield on our cars and it's a game changer. 70%, while not noticeable at all to my or my wife's eyes visually, helps significantly with heat rejection and to reduce glare. No question I will do this on all cars going forward.
I have 70% 3M Crystalline on my front windshield and it doesnt affect visibility at all.
Agreed. I have 70% Crystalline as well. I don't see as well in the dark now (in general), and the Crystalline didn't make a noticeable difference in visibility.
The windshield already blocks the UVA and UVB. I’m looking to block some of the heat. The tint would have to be minimal light blockage and not affect polarized glasses. There is a lot of heat on the dash while driving and with the glues required in the EU this can be an issue with the dash. The Cayenne has the thermal glass which makes a huge difference. When parked in the sun the shield is in place.
Fair enough. I think the discussion really was about darkening your windshield (or not) to the point of where it had some impact on visibility. As far as I can tell, there is zero impact on visibility from the Crystalline. But your clarification is helpful.
70% plus has 0 impact on visibility. You cant even tell the windshield is tinted. 50% you can tell a bit but its still ok at night because the LED headlights are so bright.
I live in Palm Beach County. Florida is currently 15% VLT rear window and read passenger windows and 28% VLT for front passenger windows. I did 15% VLT all around. Florida provides for a medical waiver that allows you to exceed the maximum tint percentage. It's fairly simple and permits you to run tint as dark as 5% without getting a ticket. If you are inclined to obtain one, DM me.
