Default 992.1 Matrix Headlight Retrofit

Is it possible to retrofit a set of matrix headlights to a 992.1 that has the standard non matrix lights fitted?

I haven’t picked the car up yet but I know it doesn’t even have the basic PDSL, and I don’t think has a forward facing camera (unless they all do - it’s an MY24 GT3); if it doesn’t then I expect this is going to be more complex than just plug the lights in
and code it.

It won't be plug and play. There'll be some work to the process. Search (on Google and not here) "f4bones matrix rennlist" This query should answer your questions. GL. Post your retrofit results.

Thank you, that is extremely helpful.

Not plug and play as you say, but perhaps less invasive than I thought - as all the extra parts seem to mainly be part of the headlight (fans, modules mainly).

Here in the UK there is a decent supply of second hand matrix lights with the modules (for about £2.5k for both lights). I would need to check presence of fans but doesn’t look too difficult if they need to be acquired separately.

My main concern is whether it needed a different loom, but the document from jlegelis suggests the connectors and wiring is the same.

To be honest, all I really want is high beam assist but assume that needs different headlights and therefore may as well go the full hog.

Doesn’t look like something a Porsche dealer would do so will likely need to find an independent to support this.

I'm in the process of doing this. I ordered the fans from AliExpress for a lot less than from Porsche:

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/22558...2usa4itemAdapt

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32568...2usa4itemAdapt

If you need it, the retaining clip for the upper fans is available from Porsche, part number: 992-941-629

Thank you. Are you upgrading from the very basic lights (I.e. no PDSL at all, no high beam assist)? Does your car have a camera in the windscreen?

Very doable by those that have basic mechanical abilities. Wiring is identical, biggest issue is getting the lights physically aimed. Writeup here, feel free to DM with questions.

Checking in to see if you have successfully made this upgrade as I am interested in doing the same.

Reviving this thread now that I actually own a 992.1 (2022 Carrera with option 8IS - PDLS+)! Would like to confirm a few things on the headlight units. I've seen plenty of the 8JU headlights that have different ending part numbers - 9P5-941-681-D or E. If this follows "normal" Porsche parts numbering schemes, the change in the last character typically means that the part is a later supersession and can still be used in favor of the "A" part. Does anyone know if this is actually the case? If not, what specific part numbers will work properly to provide LED matrix lighting (Option 8JU) on my 2022 992?

I guess the same question will apply to the LED control unit 992-941-592-BB. If there are supersessions, which part numbers should I seek out?

My intent is to acquire the correct "bag" of parts and then upgrade my non-matrix 8IS LED PDLS+ lights to matrix LED lights (NOT the HD matrix lights as I understand there are quite a number of differences that the 992.1 cars will not support). Once I have all the parts installed it will be time to bring in the heavy firepower @rnlst_log - Mars to recode the car.

Hopefully, a 992.1 owner who may have performed this upgrade can chime in and correct any misunderstandings on my part. Thanks Rennlisters!

Letters more than likely correspond to color more than anything. The matrix were available in black, chrome, black with blue ring, black with white ring I believe.

Thanks Kevin. I sure wish a 992.1 PET were available! That would be a tremendous help in "divining" parts configurations and part numbers! I hate not being able to look stuff like this up!

OK, so I found the eurospares site that is a reasonable substitute for a 992.1 PET. There are two relevant pages for LED Matrix headlights:

A "standard" light (my terminology) - 2022 | 992.1 LED headlight with matrix beam D - 08.07.2020>> (905-022)
Black headlights - 2022 | 992.1 LED headlight with matrix beam Black D - 08.07.2020>> (905-032)

The list pulled together and documented by @jlegelis (THANK YOU FOR DOING THAT!) reflects headlights that appear to be the "Black" ones. And to answer my own earlier question, it appears that the letter at the tailend of the part number follows Porsche's conventions of the past meaning those part numbers represent supersessions to the original part. Specifically, 9P5-941-681 appears to be "D" for CA/US vehicles. There is a listing for a 681-C part and I wonder if it's a prior CA/USA part number?

A "non-Black" LED Matrix light shows a part number of 992-941-681-G/H. There is a "J: version as well, but I can't decipher what the notes mean ("PAV2 Driving on the right (NAR)) PBOT"). Anybody have a clue here?

Sorry for all the blather on this. I was hoping to find some used lights without having to go argue with Suncoast about their light kit!

If anyone has some ideas/explanations, I'm all ears! And if someone ( @f4bones ) has any more LED Matrix kits that they don't need any longer I might be a buyer!.

Again, thanks to all here. I'm new to the 992 Forum having just purchased my 2022 Carrera yesterday. But I have a long history with Porsches going back to 1998.

Partslink24 has a pretty robust parts finder but it’s a paid subscription. PETKA is now online only via a PPN account but still not the easiest thing to navigate.
