The HD Matrix controller (and other modules) need to be reprogrammed with PIWIS - requires a physical PIWIS computer plugged into the car, but there are consultants such as @rnlst_log (Mars) who can log-in remotely and do the programming for you.

Is there other stuff that can be programmed as well? I only know how things go in the BMW world. Don't know what's possible on the Porsche side of things.
yes - literally 100s of mods to be done, especially in the 992.1 cars and older . . the new 992.2 generation all have Protection of Vehicle Diagnostics (PVD) which makes it MUCH harder to reprogram, but not impossible. There are LOTs of threads on this forum on programming the 992 . .

How doable/ not impossible is it on the .2s? And will it become more doable with time or stay however hard it is currently?i
The new-generation HD Matrix lights are AMAZING and have already been unlocked in the US. . . the functionality is far beyond the Matrix lights on the 992.1 generation, and of course FAR superior to the base lights and it's a huge mistake in my book not specifying these 100% of the time. Swapping might be a total PITA, as there's a separate / remote controller for the HD Matrix lights that's located under the dash above the brake pedal, plus additional wires for HD control. I'm retrofitting these currently to my 992.1 GT3, so hopefully they will program. Given Porsches strategy, I doubt the wires for the HD Matrix lights are installed if this option is not selected - every harness they make is custom for some reason.
100% agree with this. I spec'd my 992.1 with the matrix lights knowing that I would be able to have it activated. Aside from the better aesthetics, in my opinion, the matrix function is very much worth it! Thanks to @rnlst_log for the help with getting the PIWIS and coding.
