Default Quickjack Safety Concern

Hi all,

I've ordered then 5000TL QuickjaQuickjack. Looking forward to using it too.

However during my research, I found a very serious safety risk which "if" it has not been resolved could end a life.
Please see the below linked thread.

I am hoping this has been rectified I years since the OP reported it.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc430-2nd-gen-2001-2010/957166-quickjack-safety-warning.html

I'm going to add pictures in case that thread ever closes as the OP posted them.

This is certainly something to check once the car is up. One more reason to give the car a good shake test before getting underneath it also.

They are still way nicer than jackstands, in my opinion, and worth the money.

Yup, Know concern and clearly shown in the QuickJack written instructions to make sure the Jack is not lowered with the cam in that position. Nothing new here, as once you use the jack a few times you easily see that the Jack will not lock in the up position if you try to lock it with the cam is in the up position.

The cam position shown above is for raising the jack only.

I actually had one side of mine drop overnight due to this. No damage was done thankfully.

However, at the end of the day it was user error. I failed to check that it was locked and just assumed since I backed it back onto the lock block all was well. I manually check the lock bars now by going to each side and physically move them (wiggle) before assuming it is safe.

That looks like user error to me. I always make sure the locks are engaged and the lobes free and beyond the lock. I hand check each one.

Quickjacks are fantastic and extremely safe when used properly.

Like jack stands though, they are not idiot proof.

I’ve probably had my QuickJacks up and down over 100 times restoring a few cars and I always check the locks after the lift, it’s 2 seconds and I’ve never had it incorrectly catch. QuickJacks feel safer (and more convenient) than a floor jack and jack stands. Confidence inspiring.

Follow the directions and be sure that the lock bar is engaged rather than cam...you need to check it!.... and then you don't have to worry about it.

Does anyone here change the hydraulic fluid in the Quickjacks at any interval? Mine are 5 now and don't get much use.

Default QuickJack accessory blocks

Has anyone used the "pinch weld" accessory blocks?

I don't believe it's recommended to change the hydraulic oil at any point.

Mine are 8 years old, get used 3-4 times a year. Original fluid, no issues, they function like new. I only have to add a little compressed air to the retract cylinders once a year in the spring time when I take them out of storage.

Thanks to both above. I was curious. I rarely use them because I'm usually too lazy to get them out for tire swaps - I just use a floor jack on each side of the car and I haven't had the last two cars long enough to need a brake fluid flush.

PITA QJ pinch blocks do not work well because difficult to line up the groove in the block to the pinch weld x 4. So I use the magnetic pinch jack pads with the regular QJ blocks on wife’s Camry and daughter’s Nissan Rogue. Much quicker and less hassle.
