From me personally? It would depend enormously by the colors. In general, there are much fewer Targas so I usually give those a second look whenever I see one but if it's say a gray scale colored Targa next to a PTS green or blue Turbo, I'd look at the Turbo a lot more. As for the general public, they aren't going to give a isht about either model and would only look if it were a bright color.

The color matters more than the trim. A base C2 in Rubystar will get more attention (whether good or bad) than a Targa 4S in Agate Grey

Neither will get attention. TBH, I have seen more 991 Gt3s around my neighborhood than I have seen Base 911.

I have not ridden in a Targa but I’ve heard from a Porsche journalist on a podcast that they have a lot of wind noise when open… and he was playing it down… so we changed and went with another model.

I do dig the older Vettes. New ones are good for the track but to me it seems the front and back don't mesh and then there are those plastic pieces they slap on the intakes. Just overall strange looking.
I remember reading an article (Road & Track, Car and Driver, don’t remember which publication) when the C8 had first came out.

They described the car as having been "designed by committee", meaning the design probably went through multiple corporate departments, with each tacking-on their personal favorite touches. Looking at the car, and in the context of corporate GM, I can believe it. In the end, this type of approach to design yields uninspired vehicles.

Any way, back on topic… I’m sure none of us 911-fans feel this way about our cars, even though we seem to agree they may not be as eye catching as other cars (even in Turbo or Targa trim). In this regard, I believe OP’s wife will satisfied with either choice.

I agree with above comments that it greatly depends on location and color. I had a Guards Red 991.1 C2S and got looks, thumbs-up, smiles and comments all the time. Especially by the 8-12 year olds!

The other day I was driving at the NJ shore few days ago and I counted 6 992 Targa’s. 5 of them where 4S’s and 1 GTS that was just driving. There were a few others in driveways. Also there was this one home who had 2 Turbo’s and 1 Targa 2 of them where new as they still had delivery plates on them. I turned to my wife jokingly and said you won’t have to worry because these cars are all over the place. On a side note Ferrari Romas and F8’s were all over the place. I can’t wait until I get my Targa 😀😀. I have a Targa GTS scheduled for September delivery.

Thank you all for your input.

Both are true, depending on where you live. But I cant imagine there being much if any difference regarding the Targa GTS vs. Turbo S, regardless of where you live. Targa people will say the bar. Turbo people will say the wing. But neither is eye-catching or flashy to the point where you should have any concern. Threads like this make me appreciate my wife more.

The Buick Regal will draw less attention than the Buick LaCrosse. That's what I think.

Growing up, it was always the turbo. Lookin out for the widebody, wider tires, wing and quad pipes is what got me excited when spotting one on the road or in a parking lot. The true Ferrari killer!

Targa was cool but from a classic sense for me. The 997 targa (not sure if they made one for 996) was meh. Only recently with 991+ generations it became a hotter item.
