Default Help me buy my first 911

Please share any and all thoughts on this 911 base for sale in the Minneapolis area. I’m located in Chicago.

Started out looking at Cayenne’s but didn’t feel like it was something I was truly passionate about.

https://finder.porsche.com/us/en-US/details/porsche-911-carrera-new-7LXR4L?condition=new&model=911&position=60137%2C41.853696%2C-88.0607565%2C-1&order=closest&page=2

Looking for a base model in Chalk if possible. This one seems to have a lot of great options, don’t really care about the leather package. Should I? Cost is a factor for me so 150 seems like it’s on the high side for a base. Is a discount even worth broaching with the dealer?

What else should I be thinking about?

Thank you in advance!

seems a bit pricey to me, it does not have anything unusual optioned like the burmeister, or rear axel steering, it's not an unusual color and it does not have the full leather interior. for under 150k you could get a nice used GT3, or lightly used Turbo, that would have more performance options standard, bigger brakes, more HP ect., you could also look into a 992 cpo that has more options for a lower cost point

Need more info, what's your mission for this car, daily driver? Weekend toy? Track car? Base makes a great daily driver, this is a heavily spec'd Base, there is nothing wrong with, I did it myself. It's definitely a customer-built car, a dealer would not spec a base this way as it cuts too much into S territory. They're asking for MSRP, that's perfectly reasonable in today's market. You might even get a couple thousand off with negotiation but I would consider MSRP to be fair.l

Seems like a nice build if you are the type of person that won't have S envy in 6 months. Seems built like a nice daily driver, but be warned no matter how many options these aren't luxury cars. Also you do have leather according to the Window sticker. It's not extended leather which is very rare in a Base.

As for suggestions that you could get a GT3 or a Turbo for $150k, not even close unless you go high miles and old, certainly not a 991 or 992.

Thats a little pricey, but it's also well equipped.
If you build a 2025 on the configurator, the same base 992.2 is only a thousand dollars more than this one.
.2's offer bigger turbos, bigger brakes, revised bumpers, better headlights and improved intake breathing.... I'd take these features for a thousand dollars more!
You can save about $8K if you pick a grey or silver metallic paint, standard Carrera wheels and standard interior.

Mostly a weekend toy type situation. Won’t be visiting a track either. Just want something really fun to drive that I can get on once in a while and feel confident behind the wheel through some aggressive turns.

is the 5k for leather a worthy option?
I thought the base price on a .2 went up significantly. How would it only be $1k more?

This is the build code...
PSIY4AK6
Plug it into the configurator... Model Overview 911 | Porsche Car Configurator

.2's to .1's are not exactly a apples-to-apples comparison due to some options changing, but I believe the .2 option package surpasses the .1 if you are looking for a base model.

The .2 base price increased by about $6K. I believe the .2 standard upgrades over the .1 are well over that price individually.

Interior only come leather of partial leather. If you can live with rubber door tops and dash...that's a savings of around $4K. Best thing to do is to go down to your dealer and touch and feel...some can live without full leather and some can't.

Before getting too attached to that chalk car, have you checked with the dealer to see if it is indeed available for purchase? I noticed your link is to the Porsche Finder and images there are configurator renders so quite possible that car is not even at the dealer yet and could be a customers order. It’s not on Porsche Mpls website either so may want to give them a call and see.

As a weekend toy you might want to consider a more lightly optioned S for similar money. And yes $5k for leather is a worthy option but not a necessity, I've had both and slept fine with both. Watch Nick Murray's youtube build videos for the pros and cons of leather options.

It’s nice! You could actually order one which would be a newer car at the same price or you could go for the convenience and take this one right now. The 2025 base car has a few nice engine upgrades.. I would point that out to them and see if they’ll take five grand off. Certain things like the full leather and the special paint make for the higher price . The only reason I see not to buy it would be if you could get an allocation for a new one and custom order it exactly the spec.

Everyone is different but I would suggest looking at a Boxster Spyder/GT4 for your purposes. A 981 generation of those would be half the price of this base 911 and a more special experience (and I say that as a proud base 911 owner). The 911 really excels at being the proverbial Swiss Army knife, doing everything from commuting to kid hauling to canyon driving to track days, but never really feeling crazy or special until you get to the GT3 level and beyond. It’s too buttoned down and competent in its modern form for that. A weekend toy shouldn’t make a good commuter, and vice versa.

I will go for a 992.2

I have looked a lot at the used market and in the end I'm going with my own build.

There are 2 things that would bug me in that configuration:

*Matrix lights are not fully effective in the US so it is a waste of money

*No full leather interior so you get the same rubber dash as my 25K Honda.

Thanks for the insight. What is the $4k leather option on the winder sticker? The finder also describes leather on most of the surfaces.

OP probably won't listen to this but should. I've had several of both and as a weekend toy it's hard to beat the 6 cylinder Boxter/Cayman variants over the 911.
